I have recently had the motor re-done on my old Mazda 626.

When I got it back, the belts where making a hell of a noise.
I planned to take it back, but before I could while I was driving the water hose popped off the radiator. I say popped, but it was more like exploded. The water literally washed over my windscreen as I was driving on the highway. Now I was next to one of those water trucks so at first I thought the water came from there and didn't think much of it. After a few km the car cut out and I noticed the temp for the first time.

Thats when I opened the bonnet and saw the pipe had popped off the radiator and there was no water. So I had it towed to the place that redid my engine.

He gave me a call and he is trying to tell me that the pipe popped off because there was a hole in the radiator. I'm telling him that the pipe would pop off due to a build in pressure not a lack thereof. Surely if there was a hole in the radiator it would leak water? It wasn't leaking water before this happened.

I think he is bull****ing me.

He's bull****ting you. Go to a different mechanic for his assessment. Then sue the one that you had the work done from for damages. Easy as that.

That guy is BS'ing you, for sure.
Look on the jobcard to see if they charged you for flushing the radiator and antifreeze.
It should be done as a standard when the engine is re-done or the head gasket goes.
It could also just be poor workmanship that they never fitted the hose correctly in the first palce :(

He is talking crap. I went and saw him.

He's trying to show me where the radiator is leaking, I'm telling him it wasn't leaking before.
So now we are bantering back and forth about why the raidator popped. He says wait and starts the car. The screeching from the belts is gone! I ask him what he did with the belts ans he waves his hand like its nothing and says 'one of the belts came off, I replaced it with a new one'. so I say 'hang on, which one'.
Then he looks uncomfortable and says ' the one for the water pump'.

Well I said thats the cause plain and simple. he still claims that one has nothing to do with the other. So I left saying he has to fix it, he says he is going to contact his head office and let me know what their decision is..

Bleh, so they're refusing to replace the radiator (apparently it cannot be repaired). They say because I drove 900 km (9 days at 100km a day) its not their problem. The best effort from the owner of the group was to offer me free labor if I pay for the parts.

So we go to RMI and see if they can do anything.

DAMIT WHY AM I ALWAYS FIGHTING WITH THE MOTOR INDUSTRY!
