So a female colleague of mine bought a Yaris, but never bothered to check whether it has a radio/cd or not (wimminz! :D )

So she asked me if she can have one installed, hence me coming to ask here: is the wiring prefitted, I mean if one removes that cover covering the hole where the head-unit slides into, would one find the plug and just plug in your new head-unit? I suppose she'd have to buy speakers as well, as I doubt they'll sell the thing with speakers while it doesn't have a head-unit.

Thanks!

Hey Grav,
Usually any new car will at least have the wiring or a plug pre-installed to accept a standard (toyota in this case) head unit. Depending on what year model it is possible to install the original part from toyota or get a custom panel that will allow you to install a after market single din or double din HU. Please note if you are considering the after market option the cables that come with the head unit might not fit the cable/plug you have at the back of the panel. A converter cable can be bought to remedy this but, is an extra cost to consider. One can easily check if there are any speakers in the doors by just looking through the grilles (usually) . If there are none you are better off buying aftermarket anyway. I would suggest that your colleague visits a branch Sound match, I have used them previously in the southern suburbs. That is before I started fitting my own sound equipment. I find them to be friendly, helpful and reasonably priced.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot! She didn't come in with the car else I could have checked for her and advised her. Just needed to find out if cars nowadays come with preinstalled cabling (and that radio plug thingamabob)

I have a Yaris T3 it is a radio/CD player and I think you can have one installed but the Radio/CD Player is a factory Radio and it will cost allot of money to have one installed. . .

I went to the parking garage during lunch and the thing does indeed have an aftermarket (fairly sure) one installed, its just that it doesn't have a face. I noticed its a Panasonic. Also I say I'm fairly sure, but I'm not 100% sure its aftermarket as I've personally never been inside a yaris.

Opinions please

toyotas always came with panasonic ...not sure about now tho

is that radio still in ?

if it is and she wants a new radio then its just about cutting the existing wires and joining them to the new radio plug
