afa Benitez insisted he needs more time to make his mark on Inter Milan after the reigning European champions slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

The former Liverpool manager admitted Inter were below par against the Europa League winners, who triumphed through goals by former Arsenal forward Jose Antonio Reyes and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero.

Benitez said he wants to change some of the things put in place by his predecessor Jose Mourinho but needs time to do so.

"Some things we will need to do in the same way as we did before and change the way we do some other things,'' said Benitez. "It's clear we will need some time but how long you never know. We have not had much time since the World Cup with the players. We were not at the level we needed to be against a team that was physically stronger and very good tactically.''

LOL here we go again... Rafa is gonna do ok this season for Inter... but wait and see... 2-3 season down the line he's going to destroy Inter's rep and all will start going down hill MARK MY WORDS!

Shame Stefan good luck to your team this term!

Depends - Rafa is not an innately bad manager, he just wasn't right for the English league. I actually think his style is much more suited to Italian football. I reckon in sometime he will not do that badly actually.

Only time will tell. I actually agree with smokey. Rafa's tactical approach is more suited to the italian way. He also did study at the italian managers school before becoming a manager so a lot of his methods are know.

My question mark about him at lfc was his transfer policy but at inter he is only the coach and doesn't have anywhere close to that control. Sure he gets his input just like mou did but its still the sporting director and president who makes the final call.

I think that will be the difference between the two tenures...

No offence intended but I think Italian football is slower and more defensive - similar to a tactical game of chess when compared to the EPL. At Liverpool Rafa often seemed more concerned with not conceding goals rather than scoring them. Mourinho is a master tactician (imo) therefore succeeded in Serie A. I think Rafa is going to come short in situations where they are a goal or two behind and need to change formation and/or their game plan.

The whole point of his gameplan is not to fall a goal or two behind and then get in a quick counter attack. Hmm... now where have I seen that before?

Rafa's gonna buy all the blondies he can find and fill the entire Inter team with them... don't forget Lucas will be there soon and outst Sneidjer :p
