Rafa Benitez has signed a contract extension with Liverpool FC, keeping him at the club until 2014.
The Liverpool manager has extended his current deal, which took him to the end of next season, by a further four years.

"My heart is with Liverpool Football Club, so I'm delighted to sign this new deal," said Rafa. "I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club like this and supporters like this, I could never say no to staying. I always made clear I wanted to be here for a long time and when I complete my new contract it will mean I have spent over a decade in Liverpool.

"The club is greatly respected around the world due to its incredible history and tremendous heritage. It is my aim to uphold those values and help create a new chapter in our history.

"Throughout this process, I would like to thank the owners for their hard work in finalising the deal. All of us at the club want the same thing, which is to be successful by winning major trophies."

The completion of contract talks with Rafa is the third major boost for Liverpool fans in recent days, coming after fabulous wins against Real Madrid in the Champions League and Manchester United in the Premier League. The 4-1 win at Old Trafford saw Rafa achieve 100 league wins in the third fastest period of time for a Liverpool manager, surpassing Bill Shankly.

I think it's fantastic news. I still believe he's the best man for the job. He will learn after this season and we'll get even better. I'll be interested to see how much money he'll get and who he buys in the summer. I've got a strong feeling that he has one or two huge players lined up which he would of informed the Americans of and that would of been part of Rafa signing the contract extension. That is the reason he wants full control of the Transfer activity at Anfield.

there are rumours going around that the reason rafa has signed is because the deal with the kuwaiti family is done and will be anounced next month ,if this is the case i'll be over the moon ,as rafa would finally get the financial backing he deserves

This is the only news I'm a bit worried about. I just feel uneasy about the whole thing. Being compared to a Chelsea or Man City will come quickly. I want to earn success the right way. Have a transfer kitty for the summer, use it by buying correctly, manage what you got and that's it. I don't want to be a team that throws tons of money around. Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson (in his earlier years) and managers before their time have proven to be succesful without splashing money around.

I believe Rafa can do this as well. He might buy one or two big name players but at the right price and he will buy unknown players and youngsters. The Kuwaiti's might have a different idea.

To put it simply. I just feel uneasy about it. Liverpool is a hugely traditional team and when the Americans took over, it changed, I just want my old Liverpool back.

i dont think well ever get our old liverpool back and frankly i dont want it back as the old liverpool never took advantage of their pulling power around the world we were the best club in the world in the 80's and stayed a nice family club ,while the juggernought that is Manure started to evolve and do things differently more "media driven" and expanded their brand to the far east and america ,while we stayed in the stone ages content with only advertising our brand in england ,Now dont get me wrong i dont want whats happening at Man City ,for eg i couldnt believe that we never had any Director in charge of Sales and Marketing before that Ian Ayre chap came,well the guy is clearly taking the club in the right direction as he setting up sponsorship deals all over the place :)

and remember Rafa is a guy who doesnt want to pay over the odds for players, keane comes to mind ,rafa clearly didnt think he was a 20m pound player ,but parry the genius did :sick: i have faith in Rafa :D he just needs proper backing :D

Stupid decision to sign Rafa in my opinion. The man doesnt know how to win the league.

Can i bump this thread when Rafa screws up again and all of you jump on the bandwagon again about Rafa needs to go?

Look I know I'm not the biggest rafa fan out there, but I can see that at the moment he is the best man for the job, and that he can lead us to the title.

lol knowing rafa he'll buy a big name star and bench him because he won't be happy with the price he paid...

Yes, he was unhappy. Tried to get much cheaper than that. Liverpool paid it in the end.

Keane was benched because Rafa didn't want him and didn't suite his system so to speak.

Robbie Keane believes he would have enjoyed a successful career at Liverpool had a different manager been in charge.

Rafa Benitez brought Keane to Anfield last summer but the Republic of Ireland international was given few opportunities to impress.

He was not a regular starter and was surprisingly left on the substitutes' bench at times when he appeared to be a good option for the Reds.

Keane, who secured a swift move back to Tottenham in the winter transfer window, insists he made the right decision to join Liverpool.

But he admits he was perhaps not suited to working with Benitez, and has hinted that he would have liked to be treated with more respect.

"Of course I wish it had gone differently, but I have no regrets," Keane told Icon magazine.

"I do believe with a different manager it would have worked for me, but different managers have different methods and some have different ideas than those you are used to or believe in.

"People have their own opinions of Benitez. I have nothing against him and will leave people to make their own minds up about him.

"When you've been around for a while as a player, all you want is a bit of respect and to be treated the way you feel you deserve to be."

Strachan praise
Keane claims the best manager he has ever played under is Gordon Strachan, who signed him for Coventry in 1999.

Keane was still a teenager when he joined the Sky Blues and he believes Strachan helped him fulfil his potential.

"My time at Coventry was very important," Keane explained.

"I got to work with Gordon Strachan, the best manager I have ever played for.

"He is a fantastic man-manager who has always known how to get the best out of a player."
