Hello

Curious for those of us unfortunate Cape Town folks, what are you doing in terms of transporting your PC to RAGE 2017?

The idea of putting my relatively new MasterCase Maker 5 (roughly 18KG in total. never planned to take the PC out of the house tbh) in cargo hold of a plane is not one that is entirely appealing to me, given how baggage gets handled. Any of you done that before? Any recommendations or other options?

Whats the best way to go about this?

Appreciate the feedback.

Rest of team flying and putting PCs in cargo, just not very keen on doing so myself. Wondering who has done so in the past and whether there was any issue post flight?

Best to pack the case into its original packaging with foam etc and put into a hard travel case. Keep screen and peripherals in hand luggage. I and thousands of others have done it. That's not saying it's 100% safe but it's done often without issue. Wrap in plastic at the airport if you worry about theft.

Also remove the GPU & maybe cpu cooler (depending on weight), depending on how it's handled they can put a lot of stress on the mobo if thrown about.

Good point, I kept the GPU with me in hand luggage too for that reason.

Sadly I don't have a hard travel case, well not a massive one to fit original box which is like 650x600x330. Suppose the only real thing thats at risk is the gfx+cooler the latter being sealed liquid cooler. The part on the cpu is not particularly heavy tbh, suppose it might be safer to take it off?

I would not worry about the liquid cooler, just the gpu.

Silly question here, but can't you courier it up?

Label it as fragile and send it to a mates house, on aramex or something?

this might be a bit of a shlep but take all the components out and leave the mobo in there and take the components with u as a carry on and if you have it, put your case in its original packaging with the styrofoam

then just rebuild when you get here

I have had cases that took a nasty dive and nothing happened. However, these new GPUs weigh a bit more these days so they could end up snapping the mobo or damaging the card. Taking out the GPU you should be fine couriering it. Will survive most falls and bumps as long as the system isn't running.
