raid 3 drives?

i dont know about other raid setups..........but i have a RAID 0 setup, where i physically have two hard drives(2x250gb), but using raid i have configured the computer to see them as one big drive(500gb).

How did you set that up? I assume your running WinXP on it? What was the process to install that on raid?

ok, so your motherboard needs to support raid on the bios for it to work. and you need the raid drivers for the Mb.
hmmm...
/me will have to go check

thanks!

This sounds like what i need to do, except I have 4 drives of vaious sizes.

Also what do i need to get, as i dont think my board has onboard RAID.

ive got raid running already but i need more space :(

yea raid is good but dont think about adding a drive

total format is needed :(

can i use 3 drives in a raid 0 setup?

The short answer is Yes. The long answer involves drive sizes and capabilities of the controller involved.

depends on your controller's capabilities. Seriaaas controllers will provide OCE (Online Capacity Expansion) which allows you to add new drives to an existing array without having to resort to the dreaded F word ;)

so for a onboard RAID controller like mine (dfi lanparty expert) il have to format to add more drives?

yes, but it's not just a format you need to do. You need to rebuild the array - usually in the controller's setup (normally presented after POST but before OS boot. Once the array is recreated (recreated means "bye-bye all my lovely data"), only then can you partition and format.

hehe........lol.........only solution is to get new hard drives on another computer? 500gb to backup :(

ya thats what im doing just a bought a 80 gig will add to my g/f's pc :)

i want four drive in raid 0 thats really really fast they say

Hi,

Yes you can have 3 Drive in a RAID-0 set... If you have a true hardware raid controller such as the intel contollers..Not the onbard stuff.. the onboard RAID controllers unsually makes use of the OS to manage the RAID set.

With a True Hardware RAID Controller ...
It will be 2 active drives with the 3rd drive in hot standby, should one of the active drives fail the RAID set will reconfigure the RAID set to the hot standy drive and the remaining active drive. All the drive should be allmost the same size as they all will be formatted to the same same by the controller.
