This new Portable Dual Drive RAID enclosure accommodates up to two 2.5" SATA hard drives into a small package that fits easily in your hand. To enhance portability, the entire storage unit is designed to be powered by most USB ports*. The drives can be used as two independent drives, as a redundant drive to protect against drive failure, combined to become one high performance drive or combined to become one large drive. All these different configurations are controlled by a simple dip switch easily accessible on the back of the unit. By utilizing Addonics family of SATA-CF hard disk adapters, up to as many as 4 Compact Flash cards (CF cards) can be installed into this drive enclosure and be used as a portable, large capacity, high performance, and shock resistant SSD (Solid State Drive).

I want one for my laptop! No, not outside. I want a redundant array of independent drives in my laptop....

I want a RAID with hotspare - 3 disks plus one hotspare... will be really nice to have... :D

(so if one goes, the hotspare take over, and you can buy and plug in a new HDD in the place of the failed one without any fuss or drama)

Recently installed SME Server 7.x on a server with two identical HDD's - and software RAID (mirroring) is dreadfully slow. Unless you've got a whizz-bang server, stay away from software RAID.

Hardware RAID (5) is much faster as it offloads the work done by the CPU on the RAID controller itself.

If you're gonna do Raid 5, get dedicated raid hardware for it.
I'm running Raid 0 on pc, and it's very fast. Just have no redundency on it if it fails. ( 2x 320Gb SataII drives)

I'm looking for a PCI SATA adapter card with which I can do RAID 5 (3 drives + 1 spare).

Hot swap not neccessary.
