Rain 4g unusually slow!

Hi first of all - I want to state clearly that I am on Rain's older unlimited 4g package, with no intention to upgrade to 5g unless it gives me the freedom 4g does, with the ability to move around, I use it on the go.


I have been away from home this weekend, and stayed at different locations in Cape Town.

The first being Pinelands, in the Southern Sububs, and the other being Brooklyn in the Northern Suburbs.

In Pinelands my rain connection was simply slow.


In Brooklyn, the connection is not only slow, it's almost unusable, with the connection dropping frequently. Pings are sky high. I have to run through a VPN just to get some sort of usability. This is nothing more than glorified dial up....


I'm certain there is something wrong with the rain mast in the area.

Good luck with dealing with them hey. I contacted them last week about my 4G connection which has also been unusually slow. They said they will check their network team and I have not received since. I live 180 metres from my nearest signal tower and my connection has been horrendous. I can't even get past 7mbps download, couple that with 8 devices connecting to one router and it's downhill from there

Rain's network is heavily congested resulting in poor speeds. You are better off moving to another provider. I know Telkom has an uncapped sim for R449 that you can move around with.
