Hi - Will the Rain 5G modem do a fallback to 4G if there is no 5G coverage?
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
Will the use of 4G still part of the uncapped or will there be an extra charge for the data used by the 4G?Yes, it falls back to 4G
65519 = Rain Fixed LTE capped deals
65538 = Rain Mobile 4G
65573 = Rain 5G/4G
The Rain 5G can only connect to 65573 on 5G and 4G and the 4G from 65573 can only access rain.co.za 65573 is only announced from 5G towers. Want to know if your tower might be 5G. Do a manual search on a LTE phone/router and look for 65573. That means there is a 5G Rain tower close enough for the phone/router to pick up the signal.
Great info ThanksOkay so I just want to clarify some info. First of there is no 4G fallback for Rain 5G.
This is what I've seen with Rain 5G so far.
NSA 5G uses 4G to check for subscriber details and handover to different towers. The Huawei H112 CPE with the Balong 5000 chip connects to 5G and 4G at the same time. This is used to aggregate 4G and 5G BUT in Rains case they just use the 4G for the 5G connection to work and although the 4G light is lit there is no connectivity on 4G. So if you put your 5G sim in a Huawei B618 for example it connects via 4G but no internet access and you can only access rain.co.za

The Huawei H112 has Rain firmware on it which allows it to report connection stats to Rain. Rain with this firmware has blocked the ability to manually search or force specific bands or modes which makes sense because they only allow access to the internet via 5G.
So for everyone that thought maybe 4G uncapped 24/7 with the 5G sim seems like Rain saw you coming because they blocked it.

Just for clarity I would like to ask if the 5G sim card can be used in a 4G device and access the net via 4G?
Also are other network sim cards including Rain mobile 4G working inside the 5G router and still accessing the net via 4G?
This custom rain firmware part is also a bit concerning, does this mean that other 5G routers and devices without rain firmware might not be able to connect to Rain 5G
Cool thanx for the info5G sim does show 4G as connected but no internet access on 4G just able to access rain.co.za
The 5G CPE works with any network on 4G+ and 4G without any issues.
fiber is unlikely to degrade...Ok so if I have a 4G device should I get fiber or 5G?(If both are the same speed.)
Fiber - Just save yourself allot of issues - go fiber and don't look back.Ok so if I have a 4G device should I get fiber or 5G?(If both are the same speed.)
