The Rain 5G routers seem to have a few issues i terms of security and functionality. This is the Rain Router Setup Screen:

Outside of changing the Wireless Network names and setting the password, the firmware is very limited. The 2 major features I see missing are the ability to manage devices connected to the network. There is simply no way to know which devices are currently connected to your WiFi.

The second major issue is that the firmware does not utilize the hardware correctly; Or it could be the hardware is just not there maybe. Whatever values you set here, after load shedding, the Rain router simply gets restored to factory defaults and forgets any set password. The default password is just digits and lower case letters, not very secure. I'm also not sure if Rain uses the same password for all its Routers or not.

Another major issue for me is the inability to set up or configure any on device VPN.

I have tried reaching out to Rain customer support but we all know how that works out.

What pissed me off more is the inability (not Rain' fault) to set DNS - you have to hack and slash in the Dev Console to make it work

This is just a Huawei issue in general. Was the same on the budget LTE devices.

They've changed my router for another one, a Huawei one and problem solved. Before I had the ZTE one that comes with Rain's firmware.

Got the same router as pictured above. My gripe is its weak wifi signal.

Who makes these new Rain 5G routers? They definitely not Huawei.

It's likely a Chinese factory that also does branding and creates the firmware. I got a proper Huawei router. I think they are just trying these out and people who don't have issues with them keep using them.
I can see less tech savvy people just using it without issue.
