Hi guys,

Live in Northcliff and everytime it rains my line stops working at 4mbps. It's sitting at 670kbps and apparently I might have to call Telkom for the 3rd time to get this sorted. Anyone been through this before?

Yup. It is not that uncommon in SA that rain can influence the ADSL connection in a negative way, but it shouldn't be affected by it under normal circumstances!

The worst part is that if Telkom takes so long to respond, that everything has dried up when they perform their tests and then they simply clear the fault. So you have to get them to react and test whilst the line is still acting up, otherwise they might never fix it.

That is true .
you need to get them to test the line when the fault is on or the tech cant trace a fault that is not there any more when every thing dries up.
BTW if your line goes through trees the insulation on the wiring will eventually rub off on the trees and cause a fault.

Water and cables that are not well maintained are a big problem.
When it next happens why not also place a call that the voice line quality is down?
Telkom is quicker to respond to voice faults than data faults.
The other option is to hope that we have a few solid days of rain to give the engineers time to track the fault.

Warmest regards

Tim

I used to have this issue when we were still living in Pta. Every time the slightest drizzle would start to fall the sync would drop. I have been told back then thats it probly a cable somewhere in some stormdrain thats exposed and every time a little rain starts it gets flooded. *shudder* the memories... Same story as well, every time Telkom would arrive its all dried up and fine again. I even went one day to where i knew they buy lunch in our suburb to corner one of them into following me whilst it was raining. We have since moved and to this day it hasnt been fixed from what i hear.
