RAIN and Port forwarding (NAT)

The IP space that Rain uses as not accessible from the internet.

so any solutions then? or its not possible?

Zero Tier is what I use. Works great.

I use a server at host1Plus (now hecified)
Hosted in teraco, I run a VPN from my desktop to the VPS, then doing some clever network nonsense I use the VPS public IP to host things off, tunneling back to my PC on a private range on the ISP.

Alternatively, MTN Fixed LTE just gives you a public IP which you 100% can port forward to.

@jbroo , I have not had a days issues with ZT and Rain. I have double checked and I have 4 devices running 1.6.2 and are currently connected, and a few 1.4.6, also connected.

Have you got your devices to auto join or do you have to auth them manually.
are they getting IP's from ZT ?

Bizarre that you are struggling, it just works....usually.

Thanks for the confirmation @Coza. I authorise the devices manually and use my own managed IPs. It used to all work fine on ZT 1.4.6, then it broke when my devices upgraded. They cannot even ping each other's ZT ip addresses, let alone anything on my LAN.

At least this confirms it was not something Rain changed. I'll keep playing til it works again...

dyndns anybody?

Dyndns and similar services as well as port forwarding are not possible on Rain due to the double NAT they use, and the fact that the subscriber does not get a public IP like they would on DSL, fibre, etc. ZeroTier worked great for me until something broke it (for me). @Coza has confimed it still works.

I posted instructions for a ZT and RPi setup elsewhere on this forum.

I thought i ran into the same problem as you describe above, after upgrading my PI, but managed to sort it by removing ZT then rm -rf /var/lib/zerotier-one/ and then reinstalling ZT.
It authorises as a different device, but i'm back up now.

Not sure if you have tried this ?

Thanks, I'll do a clean uninstall/reinstall later and see how it goes. It seems to work from time to time, when it wants to, but the Pi is offline most of the time. When I run "zerotier-one info" it says status online, but that seems to be rubbish...

Seems to have worked, thanks. Purged ZT, deleted the remaining folder, then reinstalled. Had to join network again and add the Pi to the ZT panel again (it got a new ID), and Pi is online again.
