The rain 4g offer for R299 per month says it must be put in a phone. I assume can also be put in ipad ? Anybody know if this will be ok?

Yes you will be able to use it in an ipad.

Thanks for the assistance. I got a simcard (delivery was very quick). Works perfectly in the phone, but in the Samsung tablet, I get the Rain error screen saying I'm offline.

I assume its the 'incorrect device' error (I'm on the unlimited 4G for phones). But still not sure how to get it to work

Not a problem at all , just make sure the device is 4G enabled please
