Turns out the fibre roll out in my town is just as BS as rain.****. Pre-order for 480, now months later no fibre yet and priced increased to 700 for a 20/10 line. Other major towns are at 425 for a 25mbps line. So once again this town is being scammed and taken for a ride and money taken for poor service.

Well, in a way I did.
I did cancel my 4G. So that statement was true.

Evotel is the owner.
About 80% of the providers charge an install fee of over R2000. Evotel provides the ONT into the house.
The ISP only need to take the router out of the box en setup the connection settings. Apparently thats worth over R2000. Then some ISP's does the install for free??????

So essentially the installation fee is due to our contract with them. We charge ISPs for use of our infrastructure and different providers manage installations differently, but the choice remains with the ISP on this one. Layer 2 configuration is what you're referring to with a router being delivered. This is essentially the ISPs way of managing the connection between the client and themselves.

With regard to the price increase that you see, we actually dropped our prices across the board to our ISPs and did away with the 5/1mb packages. The price for the 20/10 you mentioned was the previous price of a 10/10 and most clients experienced a drop in price for their packages aside from smaller adjustments made along the 10/2 and 20/10 scale.

MWEB is still the same price for a 20/10 and the others seem like R20 to R50 less than what I have last seen. Thats not much of a reduction.
I know the fibre infrastructure is expensive to install but it looks like you are aiming for an ROI in in the short term

i really wish i had other options for fibre or at least have evotel shave down their prices abit :/

The lines going down is due to RLM contractors not checking before they dig a huge hole.
Rain 5G is not bad. Get to watch youtube on 720p without buffering. showmax and netflix on 1080p, using the 25mb/s package
This thread was mostly my frustration with the 4G network buffering youtube on 240p

Hi there.

Unfortunately the risk of a trenched network is construction in the area. Our lines are installed at a set depth mandated by industry standards to avoid hitting services when we install the network, but that does mean when the municipality digs to install services their TLBs hit our feeders. We always work as hard and quickly as we can to get people up and running again, but sometimes due to the construction being ongoing we can't always manage that.

We have altered our pricing structure to the ISPs on our network to bring them in line with the rest of the industry and we have many different ISPs available on our network who all have different prices as well, so we're sure there's something on the network to see to your needs.

Hi there. These prices are unfortunately determined by the ISPs and how they choose to manage the installation. ISPs that charge free installations generally have fixed term contracts whereas those who charge installation fees tend to (but not always) have month-to-month options.
