So I wanted upgrade one of my RAIN fixed LTE SIMs and got this message?
If you upgrade or downgrade you lose the double data now?Screenshot_20190524_221425.jpeg

Their providers are no longer supporting this product properly. Rain screwed everyone over

I had a fight with Vox about this that lasted more than 3 months. I couldn't downgrade my package, they couldn't even downgrade the package. They billed me for the original package until I blocked it. Then they wanted me to pay R2500 for the router. I threw their own T&C at them

Rain in trouble?
Not really. They used fixed wireless clients to raise revenues, then pulled the carpet from under those clients when they released their uncapped mobile product by basically no longer supporting it properly.

So what was the benefits ( limited devices allowed, limited number of clients)

There was an almost immediate change in speed, and service. People who had signed contracts with devices either had to live with the schitty speeds, or pay out the device costs.

Their mobile product seems to be going well for them

Well it is technically a discontinued product so they're doing you a favour by letting you keep it. It's not bad actually with the double data.

I bought it for the office 6 months before they "discontinued" it. The service provider wanted me to pay R3500 to cancel my subscription for a discontinued and unsupported product.

I told them they can come and pick up the router and cancel if they aren't able to support it. They gave me some story about Rain not allowing changes and the like

That is a bit unsavoury. You should be allowed to cancel a discontinued product without any penalty.

Old news. I cancelled mine and got a better deal from Vodacom.

Vodacom?? The same vodacom we have come to love to hate? What deal was that?

I am still content with mine even though i did upgrade it. Still loving the router - plus i was one of the lucky few that signed up before they even updated their T&C's. Also the product is month to month so i don't see the issue when it comes to cancelling. I'll stick with them till something better comes along. And yes there is CellC but they are a nightmare in every sense of the word.

I got the 110GB for R299 per month. (OK 30GB is after hours which I do use)

The new Vodacom deals aren't bad for those that can use them. However only the standard portion rolls over and that is the portion that gets used first. The real drawback is the 24 month contract with the fast pace at which things are changing.

And you pay more for a 5G device than my whole contract ... I can only shake my head
Likely won't be more than what 4G was. Also 5G will be mostly an extension to 4G so you will be able to still use your 4G modem only at 4G speeds.
