RAIN (Huawei B618) router appears to use data when PC switched off

Received the Huawei router on Wednesday. Hitherto I had been on a 4mb ADSL package and my monthly useage was in the order of 20Gb - 30Gb with one month at 55Gb

I was a bit surprised to see that in the 4 days I have had it, it registers 18Gb of data used. On Friday I decided to check the useage figures. When I turned off the PC at 6.00pm, it showed 16.54Gb data used. The next morning, checked it first thing and the useage was 17.01Gb. That is 470mb of data used up somewhere

Apart from the PC, there is an iPad and a Samsung TV, although the TV does not use anything and the iPad was totally switched off since it charges faster when switched off

I see there is provision for the router to update itself. Does this account for 470mb "disappearing" each time the device is switched off?

the router will update automatically until you disable it. but not huge, normally it could be ignored.

All my Samsung TV's did an automatic firmware update over the internet, as this is how I set it. Not sure what TV you have? Also keep in mind, my one TV wasn't a Smart TV, but it still did firmware updates... Just FYI.

Hi, I have a similar issue whereby I have signed up recently for a fixed wireless option with the same router. On my 4 MB ADSL I normally used about 20GB per month. Now with the RAIN Huawei B618 router, I used up 50 GB in 8 days. Further to this, I topped up another 6 GB later in the month and literally within 8 hours it chewed up something like almost 5GB without any serious internet use from my side. The ISP suggests that I check my data usage and that its likely one of my devices using the excessive data. I don't understand how this is possible I have not changed any of my internet usage habits, which is mainly email, Skype (voice) random video conference and youtube every now and again. At this rate, I might be forced to move back to my 4MB ADSL and cancel the RAIN option. Any advice on this matter is appreciated.
