I want to get this, so I sent them an email. They must be very busy coz they don't reply.
Perhaps one of you guys can help me...
Do they install (e.g. position the router) or must I do it?
What is the connection from the router to the PC - is it wifi or cables?
What is the preferred or maximum distance from router to PC?

They do not install, if you need it mounted you will need to get someone out of your own pocket and convenience to do so. They just deliver the router with the sum then you have to follow the instructions to set it up.

Connection to PC can be cable or WiFi depends on the network you have at home. Cable is preferred as WiFi can be finicky and inconsistent.

My setup is as follows: Rain modem > Mikrotik Router (cable) > Switch (cable) > WiFi APs in mesh

When I need to connect to the Rain router for troubleshooting or setup I use a cable into the mikrotik

Thanks for explaining. They must lose a lot of potential customers by not providing any service beyond that.

Definitely especially as they know which towers are best to point at. But i think right now they are just focused on managing the network - there have been some issues

From order to delivery is about 2-3 business days using RAM in the major centres

Which Mikrotik router are you using that can do NAT at the speeds of 5G? I was using the RB2011 but was only able to get about 350Mbps (that is with fast track firewall rules on, otherwise it bottoms out at 60Mbps), where direct with the Huawei CPE I was able to get 900Mbps.

In the end I forked out and bought a Ubiquiti ER-X which has hardware NAT.

I have the hAP ac2 - max i have been able to get on the ac2 is about 350Mbps, When i was testing direct on the CPE as part of the setup I managed to get 400Mbps but i think the difference is more a symptom of where i have the CPE placed

Max CPU i have seen was about 45% when i was torrenting at 300Mbps (Linux iso).

You would have a better chance of contacting aliens than getting decent connection with Rain.
So far (touch wood) speeds have been decent, CPE is indoors but i get full bars on 5G (not that it means much). My signal strength is not that great though

Maybe read the 100's of complaints about RAIN om this forum and re-think your decision.

I'd rather have no internet....than pay these guys to still have no internet.
