Hi All,

I just received my new router from Rain due to the Firmware upgrades and noticed i now have a section " Lock Frequency " i have a tower literally 2 block from me and sometimes i find that i roam to a tower KM's away and get poor performance, can i use this to change the frequency to force myself to this tower and possibly increase bandwidth?

There is a guy around here who posted some info on this the other day, hopefully he sees this or somebody can help.

If I may ask, what router do you have?

Hi, any way to do this on the new firmware for the cpe outdoor router?

Does anyone know where i can get the info on each tower around me so that i can lock to a specific tower? My router is connecting to a tower that is 4.28km away.

Use the Optimiser tool by logging into your account on the Rain website. You will see the tower you are connected to, as well as others around you.Screenshot_20211015-212303_1_1.jpg

Yes, this just shows me which tower i am connected to and which ones ar near me. One guy showed me that if you have the Absolute radio-frequency channel number(Arfcn) and the Physical Cell ID (PCI) of a tower you can lock to that particular tower and cell. That is the info I am asking about. this map on the website doesnt provide such information for any of the towers

You can't get the PCI here. If you have a directional antenna (and a router that supports PCI locking), aim it in various directions, reboot and let the router connect and note the PCI for each new cell (some routers show this, others need an app like HuaCTRL for Huawei to read it). The EARFCN for rain on B3 is 1877 and on B38 it is 37900. If your router doesn't support PCI locking your best bet is band selection and careful aiming.

I posted a guide elsewhere on this forum about PCI locking with a Huawei B2338: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/index.php?threads/1133345/

You can also ask @rain_mobile.
