Rain Speeds in Cape Town

Does any have and idea of what the rain lte speeds are in Cape Town northern suburbs area.

I am thinking of getting rain but want to hear other experiences.

I had my sim delivered today, will pop it in to my router tonight and post the result. I'm in the northern suburbs btw
 
ordered mine yesterday after being told that telkom wont be replacing stolen copper cables in my area, so i had no choice but to go with rain as they're the only lte provider here in Eerste River. First time for me to switch providers after almost 5 years of problem free ADSL, damn those cable thieves to hell!
I'll report back once my sim arrives and i have the opportunity to take it for spin, hopefully i can get back online before the long weekend

Yes copper theft is a pain, they should rather lay fibre in our area that won't get stolen I think, but thanks man will wait you your feedback but there is no rush.

Up: 6.41 Mbps

I haven't yet fiddled with the router location and network settings yet, it might be better once I do that

May I ask in which area you located in the northern suburbs? That speeds is way better then what I get from Cell C LTE...Thanks alot man
 
Okay so I just received my Sim, Ram Couriers delivered an hour ago. The driver did the Rica thingy, after which I inserted the sim into an LTE enabled phone but it said not registered on network. So not knowing how registration works I contacted Rain and they assured me I'll be activated within 2 - 24 hours.
I'll update again by tomorrow on exactly how long it took to get activated and the speed I'm achieving, but keep in mind I'm on the outskirts of their coverage area so it might not be the best results. Anything close to 10mb and I'll be happy!

I am in Delft have the fixed LTe and have an external antenna.

Stupid question:

My SIM card from Rain was activated this morning, however I’m not getting more than 3mbps when I use the speedtest app. I’m in the Athlone area in Cape Town and that seems to be in the middle of a coverage area.
The SIM card is in my iPad Pro and I’ve got a minimum of 3 bars signal on it.
Is this a realistic speed with this kind of signal ?
 
I stay in Bellville area, I get about 2MB download and 1.2 for upload. But I have been using it around Cape Town, Canal Walk gets 12MB and 3MB upload, Paarl gets a monster speed of 52MB download and upload of 7.93.

Thanks, I assumed that because I’m situated in the middle of the coverage area and the signal seems good, I would get better speed.
Someone on another thread indicated that my iPad might not be switching over to Rain’s other lte frequency band so will try get a mobile router and see if that makes any improvement.

Oh yes, and in the Bellville area, I only had two bars of signal
 
This product should not be marketed at LTE.
Its more like slow HSDPA.
Absolute crap speeds of 2MB down and 0.5MB up.
Going to cancel and revert to Telkom FreeMe.
