Hi there,

I need some help, please.

I live in a duplex townhouse, and my Rain101 is on the top floor where I can get the best signal.

I would like to set up an access point running from the Rain101 router upstairs to a router downstairs via a LAN cable.

I have two questions after doing a lot of research and watching YouTube videos on how to do this.

I have noticed that some routers with a built-in AP mode state that a LAN cable should be connected from the main router's LAN port to the secondary router's (AP) Internet or WAN port. This causes a bit of confusion, as most cases I have seen illustrate a connection from LAN to LAN. Refer to the links below illustrating
a LAN to WAN AP Setup:

1. https://www.cudy.com/blogs/faq/how-...s-an-access-point?_pos=1&_sid=8d675be17&_ss=r
2. https://www.tenda.cz/sites/Upload/AC5/ac5_ug.pdf

I have also seen cases where older routers are used without the built-in AP mode and where it needs to be done manually by disabling the DHCP function of the older router being used as the AP and changing the IP address so that it does not conflict with the main router. In this scenario, the two routers are connected via LAN ports on both.

I am considering the following Dual Band Wi-Fi Routers: Tenda AC5 AC1200, Cudy WR1200 Wi-Fi 5, and D-Link AC1200 (DIR-825 R1) for use as access points with the Rain101 as the main router. Will these routers work, and which would be the best option and why?

Hi @Whatchamacallit,

Please provide us with your email via PM | https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/conversations/add?to=rain_mobile

Return that k@k 101 thing to rain. Buy a decent 5g router. Set your APN to rain, and customize it to your heart's desire. Profit.
