So I have an older laptop that I needed to upgrade the ram and ssd.

Currently has 2gb DDR3 1333mhz

Bought some ram off a carbie that looked compatible viz DDR3 Sodimm 1600mhz.

The ram shows up on the bios but causes the BSOD in win 10.
This was before the SSD upgrade.

Any ideas?

I bought brand new RAM that caused a BSOD after the first month. It showed up the in BIOS.

Eventually, my machine didn't want to post and got stuck on a code that pointed to the RAM. I had it replaced under warranty.

Maybe increase the DRAM voltage slightly and see if stability improves. Check your specific RAM's safe OC voltage range.

How do you do that?

I don't think you can. I find that laptop bios's are pretty nerfed. I don't have any control over any RAM settings in my "gaming" laptop. I don't have any RAM options in my ancient laptop either.

What you could do is try update the bios as beans suggested. You can download the latest bios from here. Judging from the release notes, I'm not sure if it'll help.

Something else you could also try is to run memtest. I don't remember if I have ever used it, but from what I've seen it's a pretty comprehensive RAM tester.

You could also sift through the documentation and try figure out if there are any limits to the laptop and what RAM it can take.

Thanks. Will try these out on the weekend.
It’s such a schlep with this laptop to change the ram
