Ok so this is my dilemma. I want to switch Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Now I know you should have at least 4 gigs of ram for it to perform properly. I want your guys opinion on this. Should I buy another 2 x 1 gig DDR 800, or sell them, and get 2 x 2 gigs DDR 800 and then later on get another 2 dimms? (Total 8 gigs)

At the moment my current system spec's are as follows :

Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 Mobo
AMD 64 4600+ overclocked to 2.85ghz
Asus GeForce 8600GT
2 x 1 gig DDR 800

Good move switching to x64

most stable desktop OS I know. 32bit Vista being the most unstable

I would get 2x 2GB now for a total of 6GB (if your board has 4 slots). I've run out of 4GB on my PC once or twice, but I get up to some crazy stuff.

with 8GB I have Alt-tab'ed out of a Company of heroes game, forgot about it, and played some COD4 online without noticing it until I exited COD4. Short of being as forgetful as I am, 6GB should last you plenty of time.

If you have to sell your 2x1GB, sell them now and get the 2x2GB's, pretty soon they won't be worth as much.

Just get another 2x1gb and keep the rest for a new system.
Cant do too much with 8gb ram on that system.

+1 on keeping the current 2x1GB. They're worth just about nothing second hand. Having 6GB will be enough for more than a year to come so you're safe until at least then.
