Hey,

So I have this board: Asus-x99a/usb31 with the i7 5820k

I am looking at upgrading to 64GB of RAM from the current 16GB. (Video editing is RAM hungry, who knew :p)

Problem is, it is an expensive RAM upgrade and I need to be certain that the RAM I am buying is going to work. I have been running through both versions of RAM QVL here and here. Now the former states it is tested for the newer gen CPUs, but it is the only list where I can find a compatible set of 16GBx4 RAM that I can get my hands on and even then the cas latency is different...

I am hesitant to get the RAM from the newer gen list, since I am not sure that it would work, though I do not see why it would not?

DDR 4 ram, just do it, YOLO!
A quick search said that max 64gb on this board. Maybe just upgrade bios to latest, to be sure.

EDIT: Saw this now: LINK

I can't afford to YOLO what would be a 11k (well, would be for two machines so 22k)upgrade no matter how tempted I am to do it..

Nope, that's the x99 sabertooth by the looks of it. This board. The link does make me more hopeful about just winging it though...
