You are very right there.
However ram timings make a massive difference depending on the Application\benchmark.
AM3, 3DM01/3DM03 and SuperPi are prime examples.
I know to get my 110K score in AM3, I had to run 3.04GHz with ram at 3-5-4-10 1:1 but others were running 2.9GHz with ram at the 180MHz divider (270MHz~) At 2-2-2-5 and were destroying my scores.
I had more bandwidth in theory but ended up with less performance.
In the gaming POV, timings are hardly going to make a difference, but in benchmarks or at least the ones of old, they made a massive difference. The difference between number1 and number 10
