RAM prices are ridiculous

I would love to upgrade my i7 8700 dearly but not at 20k for a cpu, mobo and ram.
I do still have great 32GB DDR4 RAM. What is the best CPU to go for that will be a sizable upgrade? Mainly gaming.

Or if you prefer Intel

Does Wootware have stock or are they a spot price quote site?..... I mean I get price increases but this is ridiculous, surely if they have stock they should be selling at the price (+ profit) they bought it for. Even if they want to retain stock levels for reasons, this is beyond reasonable..... unless they're just a drop shipper.

I just bought a bunch of decent specials out of their bargain bins to build a new PC.

Get the 5800X or even a 5950X but don't pay retail for them, get the chip and board on Carb for probably a decent savings even on those already decent Woot prices.

5950x might be hard to get, if possible look for the 5700x3d or 5800x3d

Ok, and when prices come down again you'd be happy for local suppliers to keep charging high prices for the stock they had on hand until they order new stocl at the lower prices?

prices go up and down depending on what you bought them for... dah

If I make 50% on my RAM module and bought it for R100, then I sell it for R150
If that same RAM drops in price from my overseas supplier, and I bought the next batch for R50 then.... well do the math

The local guys put up the prices in 25 seconds of the overseas prices moving = unfair

Yes, I got this kit... I'm hoping it will last me at least a year or two...

2x Kingston KF560C30BBEA-16 Fury Beast RGB 16GB (1x16GB) DDR5-6000MHz CL30 1.4V Black Desktop Memory = Incl. VAT: R8,598.00
Wow that is the bargain bin price... I paid R2200 last year

You actually paid those price!?
Whoa!!
R8500 for 2 x 16GB of bog standard DDR5 memory is ludicrous

What's my choice?
My new motherboard only takes DDR5, all my previous boards take DDR4.
I need something that's going to last me the next two years.
I'm not going to wait another 6 to 8 months for that price to come down.
I want to start gaming now.

DDR4 v DDR5.....AM4 is much cheaper right now, with minimal loss for gaming

If we keep on going back then we'll be at PC133 RAM in 6 months.. DDR5 and PCIE5, bite the bullet for now and it's future proof for another 10 years. The price difference isn't all that bad.

Any of those 3 I've seen on Carb for decent prices, unless you are gaming the 5950X is the OG beast.

I'm assuming the prices for the older higher end CPU that can support DDR4 is probably going to start going up as that becomes a more attractive option than being gouged for DDR5 ram.

If you just upgraded for gaming why go for an AM5 platform when AM4 is both cheaper and you might have been able to extend some of your components as well?.....future proofing in this climate isn't the move. I would've just upgraded the GPU and waited a few more years.
