I've bought secondhand 4x1gb OCZ DDR2-800 Platinum Rev.2 RAM. I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3L motherboard.

When I install the 4 sticks, my pc fails when windows load. When I have 3 sticks, it will work for 20 min, and show a blue screen and restarts. 2 Sticks work fine.

Is it too much for the memory controller? Or will a Bios update fix it?

Have you double-checked your BIOS settings? Perhaps the RAM's speed and/or latencies have been incorrectly set? It's possible that your motherboard doesn't correctly pick up the correct SPD info and is using the wrong settings. Check that the speeds and timings match up with the manufacturer's recommended settings.

You can also try testing your RAM chips using Memtest86 to be sure that they're operating stably and without error once you've managed to troubleshoot everything: http://www.memtest86.com/

This stuff can happen with secondhand items. Sometimes there's a reason it is secondhand. If the BIOS trick doesn't work then try the memory in another machine and run a memtest or similar.

Yeah... I was using two sticks, and the pc just crashed. Back to my old RAM for now..
