Ok so I recently upgraded to 1156 (got a good deal so I took it)

Got a Gigabyte P55A UD4P and 2 x 4GB G Skill DDR3 1600 ram modules.

Now I know with LGA 775, you put the ram in slots 1/3 and 2/4 and the ram would run in dual channel. Does this still apply with 1156?

If I put the ram in slots 1/3, the computer refuses to post. If I put them in slots 2/4, the pc only picks up 4GB so I'm currently running them in slots 3/4 so the pc picks up all 8GB, but the ram is running in single channel :/

I've flashed the bios to the latest available version.

Yes, the dual channel memory configuration also applies for sockets 1156 & 1155.

I hope you didn't upgrade to that motherboard the past few months, because Sandy Bridge (socket 1155) has been out since end of January.

What is the voltage of the G.Skill RAM? I hope for your part that it isn't 1.65V.

You can always try to set the speed, latencies & voltage of the RAM manually in the BIOS and then trying the RAM either in slots 1 & 3 or slots 2 & 4.

In the end, if you can't get it to work in dual channel, then just continue using it in single channel, because you won't really notice the performance difference unless you're running benchmarks or RAM intensive simulations/apps.

Upgraded last week. But i was able to sell my 775 parts for the exact same price i paid for the 1156 parts. So basically I upgraded for R0 which is why I did it.

Yes the voltage on the ram is 1.5v, made sure of that.

I'll try putting the settings in manually in the bios and see how it goes.

I may be wrong but the last 1156 board i worked on the slots got numbered 2 - 1 - 4 - 3 (2 being closest to the cpu) just check the manual and board closely

According to this diagram that I got off my manual, I use DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1, hope this helps.

Yes always look at names of slots. If slots A1 and B1 don't work together either the mobo is porked (hence price) or the RAM is funny.

Also why the need for 1.5v as this isn't Sandy Bridge?
