What would be better :
4 gigs of DDR2000 or
8 gigs of DDR1333

If I put DDR1333 with DDR2000, the entire bus would only run at 1333 correct?

It depends on your use, but typically 8GB of slower memory is better than less, but faster memory.

If you have a combination of the 2 speeds, it will all run at the lower speed.

Why not DDR3 1600MHz? This speed is quite affordable nowadays and can be used with Ivy Bridge without having to overclock anything.

Hi there
More over less is always the best with memory unless your application is terribly memory intense needing fast access.
You must also make sure that your OS will be able to address the memory remember that a 32 bit will not address more than 4GB.
You should also make sure if going DDR3 that your motherboard is capable of supporting it. PC Mag had a good article on DDR3 here. Generally if your motherboard uses DDR2 then it is not going to work with the DDR3 but there are exceptions where they have DDR2 and DDR3 slots.

Regards

Tim

You need a benchmark tools to pick up the difference, get the cheaper stick of ram. More ram is better than faster ram.

1600 though as nomnom mentioned is a good idea but 1333 is fine.
