Hi Guys

I got a Lenovo G070 i3 laptop for home. it comes with 4 gig of RAM. My colleague gave me an 8 gig which I installed in the spare slot. I check the "installed memory ram" in the system information and it shows 12 gig (11.9 usable)...

What I want to know is, in all the specs I've read up on for this model, it says Ram upgradable to 8 gig only... but when I installed the new 8 gig, all together I have 12 gig including the original 4 gig, is it possible that it just shows 12 gig but not actually using 12 gig, eg I installed 12 gig but its actually only using the max 8 gig?

Perhaps the specs are referring to the version of windows the machine ships with?
Windows 7 Home Basic has a memory limit of 8Gig. Under system information in windows it will report you have 12Gig installed but only 8Gig usable.
