He is the elected leader of the ANC. They elected him to make decisions. If he had a backbone, he would tell them that if they want to carry on with their gravy train, the country needs some sort of reform.
 
Two things
1. He seems to be doing by the book and more. Many companies do not.
2. He came in person. I have seen companies where the boss man delegates it out.

Sure he could have postponed it but thats just delaying the inevitable and putting more jobs at risk.
There is no point in retaining staff when there is no work to do

Good points all. Perhaps he compensated them for their retrenchment. Now if only he would take this blueprint and run the country similarly.

I agree with you. It's a **** thing to do. Some families now will have a very dismal festive season, and they're not looking forward to that.
 
I don't get what some of you guys are saying.

The farm lost many cattle due to foot-and-mouth disease to such an extent that it's facing liquidation. The only alternative was to retrench because let's face it, who wants to pay employees for doing nothing?

And he paid the workers two months' salary and offered to upskill them by paying half the fees for the course they want to do.
 
From the article :

"We understand the President is involved but people have responsibility to tell the truth. Yes the President came and spoke to them in person, as he didn't want anyone in the management to speak to them. He let them ask questions and they were settled and understood. We have done all processes for retrenchment, they were alerted earlier, they got their 13th Cheque and we have paid them retrenchment severance up to 18 days and they were also paid their day offs too."

He said the company has also agreed to pay half of the former employees' fees towards skills development courses.

"We also promised that if one needs to study, to maybe start a business, the company will pay half of their skills development courses," he added.

Nah, decisions are made "collectively" according to the mobster deposed few years ago.

People still don't understand how net worth work. The farm business and the buffalo are already counted in the billions. The business is his money.
 
They should probably be thankful because I'm sure the families of the Marikana miners would've preferred retrenchment.

Struggle billionaires aren't billionaires in the traditional sense. They didn't earn the money with hard work and perseverance. They came into power and divided South Africa's wealth among themselves.
 
What about selling his R15 mil, buffalo to keep the farm going. ( Was his wasn't it?)
