Ramaphosa wants to split Eskom in two: report

It is a very good idea. The main benefit will be the new company responsible for transmission will be less hung up about where the power comes from and as such wont perpetually road black the Independent Power Production side of things as much as Eskom has. Eskom has been doing everything it can to stop that reaching the light of day as it means they get less cash, and face more competition. In fact it would show just how expensive Eskom power is once independents provide power for less, and do so more reliably.

Yeah. We need two companies to keep afloat with massive amounts of debt instead of one.

The last thing this country needs is MORE fcking useless SOE's.

Good

Same thing that happened with Telkom split, now we have a choice of who we want for our fibre, doesnt have to be telkom (Openserve)

It is a small part of a bigger solution. But the fundamentals don't change - Massive Debt in the Generation Company. The Transmission company will be profitable and run well, since their is little room for corruption in building transmission lines. The big bucks is in Coal deals.

So how do we solve the Medupi/Kusile debt and coal supply cliff? There needs to be far more in the pipeline than just creating two companies. But I suppose it will appease the unions for now until after the elections.

But yes, we now need to hire 1 new CEO,CFO,CTO, +-20 new executives and a new board. Money money money..

If they allow private companies to compete with the power generation side of Eskom, this would be a really good idea. If consumers could choose who to buy electricity from it would be even better. Having a single distributor means one could change providers without issue.
