Hallo,

Can anyone tell me if it the money and effort worth to buy Rambus Memory? The thing is, I have a Intel Server mb and one Rambus 512mb RAM module. Now for Rambus to work, I need an additional 512mb module (I think from the same manufacture). Now, Rambus is expensive. Very Expensive,

Is their that much performance gain with Rambus memory?

The mb and RAM is just lying around, doing nothing.... :p

Rambus...OMW...i've only ever heard of that, never acctually saw it.
Best bet, get rid of the board and memory, get newer technology.
The price of new rambus memory makes it to expensive!

RAMBUS was used in the Nintendo GameCube.

It is a niche type of memory, not widely used at all and I predict it will disappear completely from use soon.

My brother had a P4 board that used Rambus a couple of years ago. The ram was so expensive and hard to find that he just replaced the mobo, cpu and ram.

Look on eBay dude, you also get ECC and non ECC so be careful.

You can get a 512mb kit on eBay for $35 which makes it worth it.

Thanx. Luckily the mb supports both. Anyone know which is faster (better)?

Is it save to buy from Ebay? I will check the seller's rep but is it still save?

RAMBUS is supposedly faster and less latency than comparable DDR SDRAM.
If only everyone knew how complex the memory subsystem on a computer has become.
Gone are the days of a simple read and write. Now it's commands and state machines and high speed signalling.

RDRAM itself was also used in the PlayStation 2, which I think you'll admit was very successful. On the desktop it never really took off because of price and so on. Anyway, DDR2 and 3 now eclipses any gain RDRAM ever had.

They had enough good ideas however to move things forward with XDR Ram, which is in every Playstation 3.

I can't help with eBay or where to buy RDRAM, as it was never easy to get hold of in the first place. When I did see it, it was expensive.

First off- I have no interest in the PS consoles. So I have no idea what is inside of them.

Secondly these memory technologies tend to be used in game consoles so that they can ensure that the memory (for the time) is as fast as it can be.
