Rustenburg - A supermarket was looted and a building torched in Tigane outside Klerksdorp, North West police said on Friday.

"Yesterday, late in the afternoon members of the community went on a rampage and set alight a building that was previously used as a satellite station. They also looted goods from a supermarket, which they allegedly burnt," Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said on Friday.

"According to information available at this stage, acts of criminality continued when goods were looted from a tuck-shop and a liquor store while an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) was damaged.

"At this stage, the police are investigating cases of public violence and arson and no one has been arrested in these cases."

The violence was thought to be linked to Tuesday's protests over retrenchments at the Gupta owned Shiva Uranium Mine.

Criminality planned against the backdrop of protests. With authorities doing little about it, it's bound to get worse.

Just wait until the land issues make their way to the residential areas, protests outside your house.

So the very stores that supply their needs they go and ransack and torch ?? The mentality is quite something to ponder?

One day there will be no opportunistic looting and burning by these 'protesters' and I'll choke on my coffee ......

can people stop calling this protesting ffs. seriously, might as well call zuma a saint. in fact calling these protests or protesters is in support of the zuma agenda.

Monday, bottle store gone...

Haaaa, noooo.

Supermarket gone...

Haaaish.

Yes. Criminals will exploit all the weak points. If I was a crim, every time there was a march I would be plotting what I could steal and loot in the mayhem as there is so little police presence.

Unfourtunatley there is no respect for law and order and even worse for the police themselves anymore. That was clearly visible with those 6 cops that got bitch slapped in VDBijlpark just last week by a bunch of foreigners.

They really need to up their game properly.
