Rand tumbles to R7.41/$

lol, NOO, its going down... quick grab the life jackets, jump jump

Ya, interest rates will go up again soon, but it has precious little to do with the currency and everything to do with the massive credit growth

Jokes aside... basically a repeat of the year 2001, same timeframes aswell. Some hard times ahead folks...

  oh no.. i hope not, prices of things adjust upwards and remained at those lvls in alot of cases. If it really is gonna flop like that its gonna be real bad.

AFAIK it is because we are importing more than we are exporting - this is going to go down very well with farmers and the textile industry ...

Not if you're smart, you'll produce or resell something overseas ... this is good for exporters. Make lemonade and all that. Still lots of opportunities out there, and this only helps.

There are no hard times ahead. I cannot understand how some people think sometimes.

The exchange rate doesn't make you richer or poorer (There might be marginal differences based on the prices of imported goods increase, but exports will rise and the multiplier will kick in, basically keeping things equal)

Inflation makes you poorer. And that is precisly why the Reserve Bank has increased the repo rate. To combate inflation *before* it happens

You will have to spend more on fuel for transport, all the food being transported to the shops will cost more deu to fuel...

supersunbird : As I mentioned, an increase in the price of fuel/food/etc is called inflation.

Inflation doesn't happen due to exhange rate changes. What most often happens is that the prices of certain things goes up and others down (or wages increase, etc)

This must be good news for Telkom:

They are no longer overcharging by 700%, it has fallen to a mere 650% :)

Yeah, now Telkom is affordable to the masses! :D

Brillant business plan they use.

Well, the fuel price will increase if it stays the same internationaly, but the rand weakens, so what is that called then?
