hey guys.

dunno if this should be on hardware or software but its a problem with an portable hdd. not really a problem but its annoying me.

my friend brought her portable to me to get some stuff and questioned me about a random folder that appeared on her hdd. its named bluemo~4.com. i cant delete it (get a file name specified not valid or too long). all the files in the folder are randomly named with symbols and letters with apostrophes and stuff. file extensions as well.

dunno what to do. any help would be awesome! thanx!

Yup, something nasty on there.

Use Linux to scan for any suspicious .exe files hiding where they shouldn't.

Yep +1 Linux is your answer. You can't delete it because Windows won't let you. It thinks the "com" part of the filename means that it is a system file.

You need to get a Linux LiveCD like Ubuntu and boot from there... then you will be able to delete the folder.

Alternatively... copy everything else off the drive, then reformat it.

Related problem (sorry for the hijack). I have a drive and a flash stick that has folders called GMAIL on them. This folder is not visible on Windows, I only see it when I plug them into my media player or PS3. I run avast AV and I'm sure it would have picked something up if there was something dodgy?

thanx for the replies ppl. think for safety im gonna copy her stuff and format. it'll be the safest in her opinion. Thanx!!
