Hi guys,

Hope someone can give some advice or pointers.. My PC is experiencing random freezes - and has been for the last 2 years. Most of the time without a blue or black screen, it just freezes. Now and then (rarely) it's a blue screen with an 0x124 code.

My specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 (not overclocked)
RAM: 16GB DDR3 (2x 8GB Kingston 800MHz)
Motherboard: Asus P8B75-M LE
Graphics card: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670
Drive 1: Samsung Evo SSD 250GB SATA6
Drive 2: Seagate 2TB SATA6 (currently on a SATA3 port as my mobo only has 1x SATA6 port)
Power supply: 750W (think it's Seasonic)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

Accessories:

Keyboard: Logitech G15
Mouse: Logitech something (cant remember, pretty standard mouse though)
Headset: Logitech G930 wireless

What I've done so far: (the freezes started before any of the steps below, and are still present after all of them)

1) I've replaced my old 750W CoolerMaster PSU with a new 750W one.
2) I've replaced my old GTX 560Ti with a GTX 670 a while back.
3) I've replaced my old normal WD drives (3x 1TB) with an SSD+normal combination. Both brand new.
4) I've replaced my Win7 installation with a Win 8.1 Pro installation.
5) I've removed the Logitech Gaming Software as well as all the Logitech drivers to see if that changes anything.
6) I've done very thorough memtests to see if it could be the RAM.
7) I've done a Prime95 cpu test for a few hours, no freezes. CPU under 100% load runs at 42deg celsius (I have an aftermarket cooler on it)
8) I've been monitoring my temps - GPU is usually at around 45deg and CPU at around 30deg when it freezes - thus no overheating.
9) I've updated the BIOS to the latest version.

But yet the freezes continue. They are quite intermittent and there isn't a fixed pattern. Sometimes they happen while in a game, other times while just in Windows doing nothing. There are never any event log entries when they happen, other than an entry that says Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

I'm at my wits end, and I have no idea what else to check for. I can't afford to replace the CPU and motherboard at the moment (and I would need to replace both together, as it's still a socket 1155 CPU).

Any ideas, or pointers on what to check for or what else to eliminate?

I will - but bear in mind that the drives I have now are the new ones I bought on Friday (Seagate ST2000DM001-1ER164 and Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB).

Oh yes, sorry - forgot to mention: I also updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I hate to be the barer of bad news but you're kinda fooked with such an intermittent fault.

The only thing I can suggest short of a new MB is to run Micro-Scope Diagnostic Suite to see if it picks up anything.

A month or so ago my pc running windows 8.1 did this , games also became unplayable. I noticed it happened after windows installed a lot of optional updates, did a system restore and problem solved.
