Range Rover Sport or BMW x5

oh no. I myself am conflicted. I cant buy em as new, too expensive. But I called this discussion just to see peoples views on these 2. the bm is nice, very, but still, like I said, doesn't feel that special inside
I agree, the BMW isnt special but it works. The range is more beautiful but the buttonless system is crappy, laggy. Not to mention range electrical issues.

electrical issues. isnt that what they have in common?

Between those 2, depends. If you spend a lot of time in tar, the BMW. If you intend going off it, the RR.
lets be realistic here, no one is going to take a RR sport off-road. The company has other more off road focused SUVs. They would rather go for a land cruiser 200/300 or Prado.

Ahem...

Yeah, I have quite a few friends that takes their RR sport or RR proper off road regularly, in fact RRs are actually very good off road. Have also encountered Cayennes and AMG G- wagons. I myself take my LX450d off road regularly as well.
Lets rather say poor people who want to act rich by buying a RR sport won't take them off road ;)

Going back to OP's question: RRS beats the X5 hands down ito performance, comfort, and luxury.

Avoid the SDV6, it has a tendency to eat its crank. The SDV8 & SCV8 are the ones to go for.

The SCV8 is the last proper old-school petrol V8 that you will be able to buy, everything else has gone smaller + turbocharged.

Remember though, these are luxury vehicles, and while the second-hand prices are affordable, the maintenance costs are quite steep.

quite simple :

BMW is the tried and tested "it just works" however very boring and no personality.
RR: Has a touch more x factor/personality but not as reliable.

Performance? You are wrong.

Sorry, I should have been clearer: when speaking of performance, I include on and off-road capabilities.

Oh alright. But in terms of performance off road is the only place where the RR outshines the X5. Put them both on tar though then it’s another story.

In a straight line, sure. But in the twisties, I'm not sure the X5 could keep up - the 4WD system in landys is out of this world, especially if the vehicle has Dynamic Response and TVBB.

And I doubt an X5 can do this

if its the diesel X5 , i would say BMW, if you look carefully in the photo of the interior of the range rover, there is a disco4 parked on the show room floor, i personally would take the d4, regret selling mine

U are on another planet. Land rovers are not good at twisty roads. Nope they are what they are, tall vehicles. Even most car journalists have made it clear the x5m has better driving dynamics compared to the svr. They're not called the ultimate driving matchine for nothing

Haha you are a funny one. X5 performs even better in the twisties.

If you want a dated chassis and suspension with body lean and body roll then the RR is perfect.
