Land Rover announces new Range Rover SV Coupé

Yes, it’s happening. Land Rover has officially announced that it plans to unveil the new Range Rover SV Coupé in March, billing it as the “world’s first full-size luxury SUV coupé”.

In a short statement accompanying the teaser image you see above, the Whitley-based automaker promised that the two-door four-seater would be a “dramatic and desirable addition” to the Range Rover line-up, featuring a “seductive body design and a supremely refined interior”.

The Range Rover SV Coupé, which was conceived by the Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations, will be hand-assembled at the SV Technical Centre in Ryton-on-Dunsmore in Warwickshire. Global production will be limited to “no more than 999 vehicles”, says the British manufacturer.

The brand says the new SV Coupé is a “celebration” of the Range Rover bloodline, complete with a “dramatic two-door silhouette” that pays homage to the original two-door of 1970.

“The Range Rover SV Coupé is a highly compelling design with peerless refinement and uncompromised sophistication from its breathtaking exterior proportions to its sumptuous, beautifully appointed, interior. This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level,” said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover chief design officer.

The Range Rover SV Coupé will make its debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in March.

Range Rover SV Coupe Announced

If you think a huge SUV with only 2 doors is cool, then the new Range Rover SV Coupe will excite you. It has just been announced and will be produced in limited numbers.

Land Rover has announced that its Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) department will be making a Range Rover SV Coupe. It’s a 2-door Range Rover that is limited to no more than 999 models globally.

The SV Coupe is a nod to the 2-door variant it made in 1970 with the new model showcasing a dramatic silhouette and modern technology. For now, all Land Rover has shown is the above image of the interior, which looks nice and woody.

Range Rover is building the model as a celebratory special edition for its 70th anniversary. The model will be officially shown at the Geneva Motor Show on the 6th March 2018. More details will be made available then, so stay tuned!

Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupe

Nearly 50 years ago, Land Rover created the luxury SUV sector with the introduction of the Range Rover. Now it's defining a new genre with the world's first full-size luxury SUV coupé: the limited-edition two-door Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupé.

Created by Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations, SV Coupé is an exemplar of Range Rover design, craftsmanship and capability. It features a seductive body allied to the next-generation of cabin luxury - with the peerless all-terrain ability expected from Range Rover. No more than 999 will be hand-crafted by SVO for clients worldwide.

Beautiful proportions with a powerful stance give SV Coupé unrivalled on-road presence. The signature floating roof, continuous waist and tapering tail are instantly recognisable Range Rover DNA, yet are expressed in a unique way for this exclusive addition to the Range Rover family.

SV Coupé's purity of line is perfectly complemented by elegant power-close doors with frameless glass. In combination with the panoramic roof, light floods into the cabin, accentuating the relaxed, sophisticated and contemporary ambience.

Carefully curated body colour combinations, including a new Contour Graphic available in four duo-tone colourways, are offset by unique side vent and grille designs. This is also the first Range Rover with a 23-inch wheel option.

Enhanced luxury and exquisite craftsmanship extends inside too, with semi-aniline leather front seats bringing Range Rover's already premium interior to a new level of luxury: accommodation comparable to private jets and yachts. Their gradated diamond quilt design is unique to SV Coupé.

Each SV Coupé will be hand-assembled to the client's personal specification by the fastidious experts at the SVO Technical Centre in the UK - a first for Range Rover.

SV Coupé clients can choose from four front-to-rear contrast interior colourways, or a range of single-tone interior colours. Both are complemented by a choice of three elegant wood veneers. A first for Range Rover is Nautica, which carefully balances heritage craftsmanship with new technology, fusing walnut and sycamore.

Optional paint finishes include Liquesence, which brings a sensational liquid metal finish to Range Rover for the first time.

Additionally, Special Vehicle Operations' bespoke personalisation team offers SV Coupé clients the opportunity to indulge their desire to create a unique vehicle to their exacting taste, granting access to 100 more paint colours, plus unique 'match to sample' hues, with a range of finishes; duo-tone front and rear leather colours with a bespoke quilt pattern; contrast stitching; headrest embroidery; doorhandle and treadplate engraving and semi-precious metal badging.

Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupé is also the fastest-ever full-size Range Rover, with a 165mph top speed. Powered by an exhilarating 565PS 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol powertrain, the most powerful ever placed in a full-size Range Rover, means SV Coupé hits 60mph in just 5 seconds.

The suspension is tuned to provide a more driver-focused edge than the standard Range Rover, with a ride height lowered by 8mm, but will remain composed and comfortable at all times. Plus, the SV Coupé loses none of Range Rover's legendary all-terrain ability, with 900mm maximum wading depth - and a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.

Range Rover SV Coupé sales are anticipated to start from the fourth quarter of 2018, priced from £240,000 in the UK.

COMPELLING BODY DESIGN

With the exception of the bonnet and lower tailgate, all of the two-door SV Coupé's aluminium exterior panels are new, as are the front and rear bumpers. A new two-part grille features Brunel Metallic rear mesh overlaid with Bright Chrome front mesh and a Satin Indus Silver metal surround, while Bright Chrome/Black Knurled Range Rover bonnet and tailgate script is handcrafted in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.

Noble Chrome metal side vents with Brunel Metallic mesh and Satin Indus Silver metal surrounds complement frameless doors with Power Close functionality and Bright Chrome embellished body colour door handles.

Pixel-laser LED headlights with 144 LEDs and four laser diodes (market-dependent fitment) provide five times higher luminance than standard LED lights on Laser Supplementary High Beam - over 500m, operational above 80kph when no other lights are detected.

SUBLIME PAINTWORK

Eight body colours are available, in gloss or satin effects, four offered for the first time on Range Rover: Constellation, Parallax, Liquesence and Obsidian; and four from the SV Premium Palette: Ethereal, Flux, Valloire and Desire. The Liquesence option brings liquid metal finish to Range Rover for the first time. SV Coupé clients can also specify one of four exclusive duo-tone gloss Contour Graphic options: Valloire/Flux, Valloire/Ethereal, Parallax/Ethereal, Obsidian/Desire.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, Land Rover, said: "Accentuating Range Rover SV Coupé's proportions, and available as a unique feature for the first time, the new Contour Graphic is created by applying a contrasting paint to the flanks of the vehicle. Starting at the side vent, it flows rearwards and around to the opposite vent, and offers customers the opportunity to further personalise their specification."

The 16 optional SV Premium Palette colours offer a range of finishes including tri-coat, tinted clear coat, pearlescent, ChromaFlair and satin matte. Further colours are available as part of Special Vehicle Operations' bespoke personalisation service offered exclusively at Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupé commissioning events or by appointment at the SVO Technical Centre in Warwickshire, UK.

SUMPTUOUS INTERIOR

Stunning to the eye, sumptuous to the touch, SV Coupé's interior is a light, contemporary, space where attention to detail is paramount. Four curated duo-tone colourways, contrasting light to dark and front to rear, are offered: Orchid/Eclipse, Orchid/Vintage Tan, Brogue/Ebony and Cirrus/Lunar. Four single-tone colours are also available: Ebony, Lunar, Eclipse and Vintage Tan.

The heated and cooled 20-way electrically adjustable front and 10-way electrically adjustable rear seats, wrapped in specially selected semi-aniline leather from a single tannery established in 1905, feature a unique gradated diamond quilt design. Concurrent with the latest Range Rover line, SV Coupé has wider, deeper seat foams and specially developed interlayers for world-class comfort.

Nautica veneer - a first for Range Rover - combines heritage craftsmanship with a patented new form-following process to fuse walnut and sycamore. It joins three elegant wood veneer options for the steering wheel rim, door casings, centre console, instrument panel and loadspace floor: Nautica, Natural Black Ash and Santos Palisander.

InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment includes a 10-inch display, 10-inch control panel and 12-inch Interactive Driver Display, while a 10-inch full-colour Head-Up Display shows turn information including street names, slope and wheel information, cruise control, RPM and gear information. The 1700w, 23-speaker, Meridian 3D Signature Sound System with dual-channel subwoofer has Trifield 3D technology for optimum sound quality.

POWERFUL PERFORMANCE

SV Coupé features Range Rover's most powerful 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol powertrain producing 565PS, 700Nm, mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with rotary drive selector and paddle-shift. That delivers a 0-60mph time of just 5.0 seconds (0-100kph in 5.3 seconds) and a 165mph top speed.

Permanent four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer box and Active Locking Rear Differential ensures effortless go-anywhere progress, assisted by Terrain Response 2 featuring Dynamic, Eco, Comfort, Grass Gravel Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand and Rock Crawl programmes.

REWARDING DYNAMICS

Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupé's ride height is lowered by 8mm over the standard Range Rover, to deliver enhanced dynamic performance and aesthetics. It automatically lowers by 15mm at cruising speeds of 65mph or above to enhance stability and minimise fuel consumption.

Its five air suspension height settings include: Access Height (-50mm max below normal ride height), Off-Road 1 Ride Height (+40mm max above normal ride height, up to 80kph), Off-Road 2 Ride Height (+75mm max above normal ride height, up to 50kph) - additional 30-40mm automatic increase if obstacle detected, and a further manually selectable 30-40mm increase above that.

Four alloy wheel options from 21-inch to 23-inch include two new forged wheels - the 23-inch wheel, a two-tone silver polished six split-spoke design with 275/40 R23 all-terrain tyres, is a first for Range Rover. The 22-inch dark grey polished five split-spoke with polished finish is also new.

EXTRA CARE

Unique to Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupé is a five-year Care Package, available either as standard or as an optional extra in most markets. An extension to the existing Land Rover warranty is accompanied by five-year servicing and maintenance plans, which cover scheduled services plus wiper blade, brake disc and pad replacement.

Range Rover goes two-door with luxury SV Coupé

Land Rover has revealed its new Range Rover SV Coupé, a fresh limited-edition two-door SUV, at the Geneva International Motor Show.

Conceived by Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations, no more than 999 examples of the new SV Coupé will be built, each hand-crafted by the British brand’s SVO division in Warwickshire. Land Rover SA says an “extremely limited number” will be headed to local shores.

The new SV Coupé (which measures 5 013 mm long) pays tribute to the original two-door Range Rover, which debuted nearly 50 years ago. But this model is also the fastest-ever full-size Range Rover, with a 266 km/h top speed.

Powered by a 416 kW/700 N.m version of the familiar 5,0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine (mated to an eight-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission), it’s also the most powerful unit ever used in a full-size Range Rover, resulting in a claimed 0-100 km/h time of just 5,3 seconds. Permanent four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer box and an active locking rear differential will be standard.

Interestingly, with the exception of the bonnet and lower tailgate, Land Rover says all of the two-door SV Coupé’s aluminium exterior panels (and front and rear bumpers) are new. Eight body colours will be offered, in gloss or satin effects.

Inside the four-seater, you’ll find heated and cooled 20-way electrically adjustable front and 10-way electrically adjustable rear perches, each wrapped in semi-aniline leather. The InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system includes a 10-inch display, a 10-inch control panel and a 12-inch interactive driver display, while a 10-inch full-colour head-up display is also included.

Land Rover has lowered the SV Coupé’s ride height by 8 mm compared with the standard Range Rover, while alloy wheel sizes run from 21 to a whopping 23 inches.

Ranger Rover reveals its R3.9m two-door coupe

After a couple of teaser images of the interior earlier in the year, Land Rover has fully revealed the new Range Rover SV Coupe in all its two-door glory.

Inspired by the original Range Rover coupe which sold for 11 years between 1970 and 1981, the new one takes a seemingly regular four-door model and deletes the rear apertures to make for a rather unusual (for the segment) full-size SUV. The finished product is, however, hardly regular.

The SV Coupe is hand-made by Land Rover’s Special Vehicles Operations (SVO) department in Warwickshire, and only 999 units will be delivered to wealthy customers around the world. We say wealthy, because at a base price of £240 000 (R3.9-million) the limited edition is nearly double the cost of an equivalent four-door Range Rover.

Land Rover compares the Coupe’s cabin to private jets and yachts, and with quilted semi-aniline leather upholstery (sourced from a single tannery which opened in 1905) available in four two-tone colours, heated and cooled 20-way front and 10-way rear adjustable seats, and a 23-speaker, 1700w Meridian Signature sound system, it's a reasonable analogy.

Wood veneers are used extensively throughout the interior, and are available in three options including Natural Black Ash, Santos Palisander and Nautica - a new design technique fusing finite layers of walnut and sycamore together for a unique layered look.

Infotainment happens by way of a 25.4cm Touch Pro Duo touchscreen, with a second 25.4cm touchscreen beneath it (similar to the Velar’s) for climate and vehicle settings. A third 30.5cm colour display is used as the driver’s instrument cluster, and above that yet another 25.4cm image is projected onto the windscreen for a head-up display with colour map readouts including street names, slope and wheel information when offroading, and cruise control, RPM and gear selection data.

Exterior trim finishers are made from a selection of exotic materials such as Satin Indus Silver, Brunel Metallic Mesh and Noble Chrome, while the Bright Chrome/Black Knurled Range Rover bonnet and tailgate badges are hand-made in the UK’s Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. Interestingly, besides the lower tailgate and bonnet, the Coupe shares no body panels with its four-door counterpart.

Depending on the market, the SV Coupe is fitted with Pixel-laser LED headlights incorporating 144 LEDs and four laser diodes to send high beams up to half a kilometre down the road at speeds above 80km/h, and when no other road users are detected.

Technically speaking the Coupe is capable of some bundu bashing, and Range Rover quotes a 900mm wading depth; impressive approach, breakover and departure angles; and a height-adjustable pneumatic suspension, but bear in mind the massive 21, 22 or 23-inch wheels (the biggest ever on a Range Rover) when venturing off the pristine tarred roads of Buckinghamshire… or Sandton.

The Coupe also lays claim to being the fastest ever Range Rover with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 266km/h, courtesy of a supercharged 5-litre V8 with 416kW and 700Nm outputs. It’s good for a max towing capacity of 3500kg as well, so load up a trailer of lipizzaners and hit the dressage in record time.

Jaguar Land Rover South Africa confirms a limited number of SV Coupes will be made available to our market next year, but can’t yet comment on pricing. If you’re interested, and budget allows, you can register your interest at www.landrover.co.za

6 Units Of Range Rover SV Coupé Coming To South Africa

Just last week the covers come off the world’s first full-size luxury SUV coupé with the super-seduction and limited-edition two-door Range Rover.

It is called the Range Rover SV Coupé and it is limited to just 999 examples worldwide and comes packing a beastly 416 kW and 700 Nm of torque from it’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8.

This gives the SV Coupé the title as the fastest-ever full-size Range Rover with 0 to 100 km/h sprint of just 5.3 seconds and a 266 km/h top speed.

Post Sponsored by Land Rover Sandton

It will be hand-assembled at the SVO Technical Centre in Warwickshire, and just six units out of the 999 are destined for South African shores.

The base price in the UK sits at £240,000 but a majority of the 999 customers will make theirs bespoke to their own tastes which can add as much as £100,000.

A rough estimate on the price in South Africa will be around the R4.5 million mark (base price) making it the most expensive Range Rover by a long shot. The next expensive is the SVAutobiography which comes in with a base price of R3,897,362.

Range Rover SV Coupé axed

Land Rover shelves plans to launch £240,000 two-door model

Land Rover has axed plans to launch its £240,000 Range Rover SV Coupé, an ultra-luxury two-door model that was due to go up against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga.

The decision has been taken as Land Rover insteadchooses to divert resources towards regular production models, including the next-generation Discovery Sport and Defender models it plans to reveal this year.

The 5.0-litre supercharged V8-powered SV Coupé was set to be the most expensive and exclusive Range Rover model yet made, with production limited to 999 units. None of those ordered were ever made or delivered after the model was revealed and confirmed for production at the Geneva motor show last March.

A Land Rover statement read: “We have taken the difficult decision to inform our customers that the Range Rover SV Coupé will not proceed into production. Instead, Land Rover is focusing its resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products.

“With exciting plans for electrification, enhanced craftsmanship, innovation and technology we are working to ensure that we continue to offer our customers a choice of world leading SUVs.”

The decision is a blow for JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations unit: the car was due to be the first model to be built from the ground up at SVO’s Technical Centre in Coventry. While the XE-derived Jaguar Project 8 SVO also builds started with a standard XE body before then being modified, SVO created a unique body for the SV Coupé.

It was to use the platform of a standard Range Rover with minor modifications and then its own bodyshell on top of that. The only remaining parts from a standard Range Rover were the bonnet and the lower half of the tailgate.

“Our Special Vehicle Operations division is continuing to develop exciting cars that push the boundaries of luxury, performance and capability – the all-new Jaguar F-Pace SVR is weeks away from its first deliveries and we have many more new models in development,” the Land Rover statement continued.

The Range Rover SV Coupe is dead

Land Rover cancels three-door, limited-edition Rangie

Yep, the three-door Range Rover isn’t making a comeback after all. Unveiled at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Range Rover SV Coupe was to be a limited-edition model developed by the company’s Special Operations division.

But in a statement released today, Land Rover has confirmed “that the Range Rover SV Coupe will not proceed into production” and that it will instead focus “its resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products” like the new Defender.

A Land Rover spokesperson said the car’s cancellation is not down to a lack of demand – though he wouldn’t confirm how many of the 999 the company planned to build had actually been sold. Either way, none had been completed and delivered.

More likely this is part of JLR’s plan to save £2.5billion over the next year and a half, which made headlines earlier this month when the company announced it would need to make 4,500 redundancies.

“Our Special Vehicle Operations division is continuing to develop exciting cars that push the boundaries of luxury, performance and capability – the all-new Jaguar F-PACE SVR is weeks away from its first deliveries and we have many more new models in development,” the company added.

Ultra Luxurious Range Rover SV Coupé Cancelled

In a very unexpected turn of events, Land Rover has axed plans to launch it’s ultra-luxury two-door model the Range Rover SV Coupé.

The decision has been taken as Land Rover instead chooses to divert resources towards regular production models, including the next-generation Discovery Sport and Defender models it plans to reveal this year.

Production was going to be limited to 999 units with 6 of those units headed for South Africa but now no one will end up getting one.

It was set to become the most expensive and exclusive Range Rover model yet but none of those ordered were delivered since its debut at the Geneva Motor Show last year.

Dead before it lived: Range Rover SV Coupé scrapped

Remember the Range Rover SV Coupé revealed in March 2018? Well, Land Rover has confirmed the two-door SUV will not go into production, despite earlier saying some 999 units would be built.

“We have taken the difficult decision to inform our customers that the Range Rover SV Coupé will not proceed into production. Instead, Land Rover is focusing its resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products,” the Whitley-based automaker said in a statement, according to Autocar.

“With exciting plans for electrification, enhanced craftsmanship, innovation and technology we are working to ensure that we continue to offer our customers a choice of world leading SUVs.

“Our Special Vehicle Operations division is continuing to develop exciting cars that push the boundaries of luxury, performance and capability – the all-new Jaguar F-Pace SVR is weeks away from its first deliveries and we have many more new models in development,” the firm added.

Conceived by Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations, the four-seater SV Coupé was to be built by hand by the British brand’s SVO division in Warwickshire. Land Rover South Africa, meanwhile, had said an “extremely limited number” would be headed to local shores.

Measuring 5 013 mm long, the SV Coupé was to be the fastest-ever full-size Range Rover, with a top speed of 266 km/h. Powered by a 416 kW/700 N.m version of the firm’s familiar 5,0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine (mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission), it was also set to be the most powerful unit ever used in a full-size Range Rover, resulting in a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 5,3 seconds.

Interestingly, with the exception of the bonnet and lower tailgate, Land Rover said all of the two-door SV Coupé’s aluminium exterior panels (and front and rear bumpers) would be new. Eight body colours were be offered, in gloss or satin effects.

Adventum Coupe brings two-door Range Rover back from the brink

Dutch design house stays faithful to Land Rover's original SVO vision, commissions start at £235,000

Niels van Roij Design has revealed the production version of the Adventum Coupé, a two-door Range Rover derived from the SV Coupé that Land Rover cancelled last January.

The work of the Dutch car designer also responsible for a Tesla Model S shooting brake and coachbuilt by Bas van Roomen, the Adventum Coupé stays faithful to the original Land Rover SVO creation, with custom-made aluminium bodywork that uses only the bonnet, wings and bootlid from the standard Range Rover.

It’s exclusively powered by Land Rover’s 517bhp 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8. It's been designed to hark back to the original Range Rover, which was available in a two-door body up until 1981.

Van Roij says that each Adventum Coupé “can have striking materials and colour schemes for both interior and exterior. Everything is possible: unique fuel filler caps, duo-tone exterior paints... even refined embroidery is a possibility”.
