Very slow speeds most of the time. I have, on occasion, had good speeds (Latency of around 30) at 2am in the morning, but every evening I try a SAIX speed test and I get on average a 600 ping, and less that 100Kbs download speeds.

First six digits of my phone number: 011 476
ADSL line speed: 1Mbps
ISP name and account type: MWEB uncapped
The time of day when you typically see these problems: In the evening mostly, but all weekend as well

The actual sync speed and attenuation stats of the line:

Max Rate(Kbps) 812 852
Noise Margin(dB) 6.1 13
Attenuation(dB) 58 31.5
Output Power(dBm) 15.5 11.5

I have no Noise on my voice line, even with this very high Attenuation.
As far as I know, my exchange is called Asvoelkop

Sundowner, close to Randpark ridge. Seriously slow speeds. Internationals can reach pings of 1200 +

First six digits of my phone number: 011 794
ADSL line speed: 2Mbps
ISP name and account type: Afrihost capped and also plugg (same on both) running trace route on Afrihost my normal isp.
The time of day when you typically see these problems: Been all day today, particularly bad tonight 26 July.

Hey tracee, what exchange are you going through?
If you don't know, use:

http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/

and enter you phone number to find out

Let me know as I would be interested to see if its the same as mine (Asvoelkop)

tracee is my wife, we are on Honeydew exchange which is connected to Bromhof. The problem went away this morning, but returned an hour or so ago. Typical latencies are 600ms for local traffic and around 1100 for international.

Thanks,
Sounds like the same problem I have, however we are on different exchanges. Telkom have admitted the problem is related to congestion, but have given no plans to resolve the issue.

My father lives in ex 13 and the ADSL is almost unusable. He indicated that a technician told him that the exchange is just too far away from the house and that telkom is considering installing a closer exchange. In the meantime his is finally cancelling his line and has switched to 3G internet.

2mbps line, with Openweb. Generally stable with <50ms pings to telkom.co.za & openweb.co.za, consistent ~200KB/s download speeds.
About two weeks back, the pings became erratic & in excess of 500ms. Problem persisted across (demo accounts) Axxess & Mweb. Technician visited & it has since settled.

Connected to Honeydew (RHDW).

2MB line with MWeb.
Was fine till About a month ago my line starting syncing at btw 900/1300. Called Telkom, had a broken line which they fixed. Line still only syncing at 1.3MB.

Today Speed test to Telkom SAIX Ping:1200, Down:0.03, Up:0.75.

Exchange AASVOELKOP(RAAS03).

I have a 10Mb Afrihost account, connected to HONEYDEW (RHDW).

Signal to noise ration at exchange seems to be the issue. Currently my line is synced at only 7008kbps and at best the SNR at the exchange is about 6.1dB, which is usable, but this drops frequently to below 6dB and the line becomes unstable.

One guy at Afrihost told me that his Telkom contact said the issues we were having was due to congestion and that they were planning to upgrade the exchange capacity, but that approval from Telkom's finance department was still pending. At that time (end of June 2013) he said they were planning on upgrading the exchange in July, which obviously didn't happen.

Telkom have move my line to another DSLAM. Line is now perfect. I'm pleased as punch. Thanks Telkom.

We are also on the honeydew exchange. There was a problem with connection, but it was resolved with the exchange upgrade that took place in July, so the upgrade did go ahead.

The problem you have with SNR cannot be resolved with an exchange upgrade, your problem is due to the length of your line from the exchange (I had the same problem at a previous location). The only thing you can do is ask them to enable interleaving on the line, but if that doesn't help, then you can only get stability by reducing the speed of the line.

I am having the exact same problem. For about a month at peak times ping is completely unstable and at first Telkom said it was a broken cable but since that has been "fixed" it is exactly the same and after logging countless faults and them saying the line is fine it is still exactly the same if not worse. I am also on the AASVOELKOP (RAAS03) exchange. If anyone has any suggestions or information let me know please :(

Hey D-DogG

Try PM Telkom and ask if they can move you to a uncongested DSLAM. They did it for me, an I have a very decent line now.

Good luck!

Line speed is once again pretty useless. It was ok for a few months after Telkom moved me, but they have either moved me back, or the Uncongested DSLAM is now a congested DSLAM. MWeb solution is just to re-create the port, but it never works. Have also pm'd Telkom, but they are ignoring me now.

Recent upload speed tests, using various providers (Telkom, MWeb, Afrihost) all less than 100Kbs (when they work as often even the speed test will time out)

Very frustrating, but will continue to try in vain to get this simple 1MB line to work!!!!
