Hi all...

My neighbours friends have recently applied for an ADSL installation. They went with Mweb as they are currently Mweb subscribers. Anyhow the courier drops off a package yesterday and Telkom arrives today...

So this morning, I get a phone call from the Telkom technician at their house wanting to know where the POTS filters are!!

I ask him if he has any, yes he says, a whole box full in the van - but because it is an Mweb ADSL installation and not a Telkom one, they have to supply their own.

GRRRRRRR. AAAARRRGGGH.

I ask him to sell them (they are both in their 70's) the 3 that they need in order to get connected... he says no. He is not allowed to because it is not a Telkom ADSL internet installation, and then suggests they drive out to the nearest Telkom shop and buy them, log another installation call once they have these and he will then come and finish up.

WTF!!!

It would seem that there is no budging on this. He has billed them for an installation that is a) not really necessary b) not done c) incomplete and left.

I will be popping in later today and connect it up for them.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGH. I am not asking for a freebee, but really, two 70 year olds facing this new ADSL conversion who get Sipho from Telkom who does nothing to even try and assist! My blood boils.

Mweb not really helping either apparently. Mweb just states that it is a self install and they will only supply what is needed to connect... look at the CD included. Geeeeeeez. Perhaps have a little box that can be ticked stating how many POTS filters will you bee needing @ RX.xx per unit and add it to the bloody bill. It boggles the mind it does. Not an ounce of forward thinking.

Grrrrrrr. Rant Rant Rant - rage rage rage.

Okay - I feel better now... :(

Why did telkom come over when ur neighbour asked mweb for a self installation when they applied for the service. All telkom needed to do was upgrade they line at the exchange. There was no need at all for telkom to even show or even bill them for anything.

As for the pots filter, u can get that anywhere these days like Game, Makro, Checkers

I think they need to contact telkom and explain the situation to them and get them to remove the installation charge.

As for the 70 year old tech's.... arent they supposed to be retired by now...

Sorry to hear your troubles, I would also be frustrated. I hope he went ahead and flipped the switch at the exchange and you can still just use the line and hope it's fine. May I ask what was in the package that was delivered? I would assume that Mweb would have included their router and filters with that.

Hi

They are indeed retired... I seem to be drawn into this because "I use a computer".

* grin *

Apparently Mweb suggested getting Telkom when they applied last month sometime... why, I cannot answer for Mweb.

In the box is a surge protector, CD, booklet, router, a telelphone cable and 1 POTS filter. It seems as if there is no Ethernet cable - nothing he has described on the cellphone sounds like an Ethernet cable.

I know that the POTS filters are readily available... just why make them go to all that extra effort when Telkom tech could have SOLD them 3 from his box in his van. Good grief, sending them to a Telkom shop when he had them right there!!!! Really.

I will see them this evening and sort them out. I don't mind it is just the whole run-around that they seem to have been given. Really... a little effort on the provider's part have made the whole thing so much easier!!!
