[RANT]DSTV: Is it just me?

Is it just me or do you feel like you are getting really ripped off by DSTV? For me its not so much the service but the hardware/software. I have a HD PVR and it is ridiculously complected to set up and the software is UGLY and slow. I often end up missing something because the rewind and fast forward function is so unresponsive. Is it seriously that hard to code descent software for the PVR decoder? For the price of the decoder + what I pay per month, I would like software that is responsive and looks good.

It's between DSTV and Telkom to decide who is the service provider that consistently rips of the consumer the most: At this stage, I think DSTV is edging it a bit, but I do believe Telkom will fight back to achieve first place soon enough ...
 
DSTV isnt that bad. All the sport u can watch. But yes the hardware and software is pretty ridiculous in terms of quality and what u pay to use it
 
...and don't get me started about the volume discrepancy between shows and ads.
 
... and the mindless, endless repeats/promos of upcoming shows and their stupid non-stop its magic jingles
 
... and the way they always delete negative comments on the dstv forum
 
The HD PVR 2P has the worst remote ever. You fast forward then press play but it ends up rewinding, press play again and it fast forwards and so on, by the time you get the damn thing playing again you might as well have just watched all the ads.

that's not the remote, it's the kak software
 
This is why I am an ex customer.

Yes, the remote is freakin' horrible too. I solved that with a harmony. Before I cancelled.
 
If you look at the Sky player and TIVO in America, It makes our decoders look like we running windows dos in comparison. Every time DSTV says it needs to update the decoder, I get my hopes up for nothing. Their branded software is rubbish.
 
It's the software, the last update has produced lots of fun and games, my favourite is when it decides it's not going to record the shows, does it try again nooooo it just tells me that there was an unknown user cancellation and I have to manually go and set all the shows up again to record. Or when you rewind because it skips through so fast when you FF that you some how magically end up at the beginning of the show again, even though you were halfway through. The slow response times are back, where you end up pushing a button four times before any feedback.
The little 1131 in the room is zippy in comparison to the HD PVR.
 
Yeah - they obviously building DOWN to a price point (even with cross sub-sidising) - decent stb's have "Auto Volume Control" across channels - including AC3 levels
