To put it in the baby Freud metaphor: We all have an ID. It's our primeval desires and wants. It's our accelerator. It's our centre of desire, hunger, libido, emotions. But as social beings we have a super ego. It's the brakes. It's what we are taught we can and can't do through interacting in our social circles and environment. Then we have our ego. It's the combination of the battle that rages between the two. In perfect balance we will act in socially acceptible ways. If our superego is under developed through the lack of or too little social influence our id will have more influence on our ego and we will act in socially unacceptable ways. Sometimes depending on the societies we exist in they will merely seem unsociable to other societies. We all have different levels of taboo and what is acceptable to us depending on what we are or are not taught.

I know what you mean. I can tell you now I will NEVER rape anybody in my lifetime. Apache on the other hand I always wonder about as he's always trying to justify the schit that scum do to others.

Wrong. there are plenty of stupid people brought up in a culture that doesn't respect women who don't rape. There are also plenty of people who are intelligent and grew up in a culture that worships women who do. Don't you have any imagination to come up with some reasons the factors above exist ? Such as individual experiences ?

There's no doubt S.A has a high rape rate. There's also no doubt that there is a reason for this unless S.a somehow managed to break the laws of the physical universe and can transcend cause and effect. Why not spend the time looking for reasons more sophisticated than what you have offered ? Then come back and we can have an intelligent discussion.

We can neither ignore culture or environment but we can also never use it as an excuse or we ignore the real issue : The individual experience that lead to this flawed behavior.

No, 25% of men admitted to having sex with a woman who had been drinking or was under 18. by the same definition I think as many woman would "admit to rape". That's the level of integrity the Medical Research council has that they present it as "1 in 4 South African men admit to rape." I bet you could go out on the street and ask 1000 men if they have raped someone and not one would admit it.

Who would admit to raping someone ? Use critical thinking and don't believe everything you are told. Everyone has an agenda. Sounds like rubbish, smells like rubbish then probably is rubbish. Funny it turns out that way when you look into it a good deal of the time.
