Do you consider the bucket system part of "service delivery" ?

They have every reason to march.
 
Does the ANC controlled regions have better service delivery? If they do, then by all means, march against those evil DA, if not, don't throw stones from a glass house, people will return them.
 
The politicians of Africa are lucky, because most of their voters are incapable of political reasoning, they just follow blindly.

Today lots of people will just join the ANC, because they will believe its propagandistic promises of housing (with toilets).

He called on coloured & black to unite against the "pink slips". He called on muslims & christians to unite against the "pink slips".

The "pink slips" being accounts for the services delivered.

He's not complaining about service delivery, it's just that he wants free service delivery.

Presumably paid for by white atheists.

This really makes my blood boil. The most useless bunch ever to run CT who did absolutely nothing for the city or the people are proclaiming "Poor Service Delivery," when Zille has been in place for a relatively short time verse the years and years of ANC rule.

The battle for political control of the City of Cape Town intensified on Wednesday as Premier Ebrahim Rasool and senior ANC members of the provincial government added their voices to the crowd that marched to the Civic Centre to protest against poor service delivery.

A high-level provincial government contingent, including Rasool, MEC for Finance and Tourism Lynne Brown and MEC for Local Government and Housing Richard Dyantyi, were joined by ANC regional secretary Mbulelo Ncedana, ANC provincial secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha, provincial secretary of the SACP Khaya Magaxa and provincial secretary of Cosatu Tony Ehrenreich, in shouting slogans of "Down Zille" and "No to pink slips".

"The city will obviously..." were the only words Dan Plato, mayoral committee member for housing, could say before ANC supporters booed loudly, pointing fingers and throwing papers and cans in his direction. He and city manager, Achmat Ebrahim had to walk around metre-high coils of barbed wire to address the chanting crowd.

He said later: "Ninety percent of what was said was lies, brainwashing meant to mobilise (the crowd). No one is being evicted."

Zille rejected all 11 of the ANC's objections, and strongly refuted the allegation that the city had failed to provide housing opportunities.

She said national government was six weeks late in finalising this year's subsidy programmes. This meant that, since April, no new municipal housing projects could be approved. The national housing department had also excluded housing services from national subsidies, meaning that it would only finance the building of top structures.

"This unilateral policy will have a serious impact on our housing projects." She said the provincial government was "holding up delivery" by dragging its heels in giving accreditation to the city to deliver top structures. The city's application was submitted six months ago.

Meanwhile, the city's housing allocation had increased from R355-million to R450-million.

Zille defended the rates increase, saying that 11 percent of households would pay lower rates than before. "In the meantime, some ANC councils' service charges have been hiked more than in Cape Town."

Of the 46 000 notices for water restrictions, 12 000 had been reconnected. She said there were only three bucket toilets left in formal housing settlements and 7 600 in informal settlements. These were being dealt with.

It was the ANC which laid off nearly 100 senior managers at a cost of R80-million "because they were the wrong colour" that had victimised staff, she said.

Zille said the only people being evicted were drug dealers living on council property.

Zille said the protest had a lower turnout than expected, at no more than 1 500, while others estimated as many as 10 000 turned up in what Erhenreich said was "the largest Cape Town has ever seen".

The people marching don't live in an ANC controlled area.

I'm not saying that it better or worse anywhere else, and there are enough demonstrations around the country in ANC areas about similar issues.

Is the ANC leading marches in those areas? Didn't think so. Look to your own before accusing others. And look in your own closet who is the most useless before leading marches in other areas not controlled by yourself. :mad:

You seem to forget that after the NNP went into the ANC that the ANC ran Cape Town for a few years...:rolleyes:
 
Yes, I am familiar with the recent history of Cape Town. It is a little difficult to demostrate against the previous govt though.
 
You'd think the premier would have better things to do with his time. Wonder if he put in leave for the day??

Ja well maybe the anc needs to go lead marches in their own areas as 13 years later they are the 'previous government.'
