Raspberry Pi - Do you own one?

Quite a few replies here!

I think I'm going to try the installing xbmc on my PC as well. Thought it was network lag.

Should be off to Durban tomorrow and will possibly pick up a small abs case (not a proper on for the Pi since I'll save nearly 60 bucks)

I'm streaming my content via ethernet.

I have a PC in my lounge which works fine and have no problems watching any content. It's the Pi that's giving me grey hairs

strange i stream from my gio or my tab all the time with no problems, i watched an episode of ancient aliens last night (1 gig file) from my gio with no problems and that was over wifi...

Only downside is that xbmc has to be running on the main pc.
but it works like a charm.

About this....

My main PC has all my drives in with all the data on.
Pc in the lounge runs XBMC and of course connected to my main PC over ethernet.

Now what I wanna know is...
Can I enable upnp and have the Pi run from the pc in the lounge even though all the data is stored on my main pc?

Richardxtc...

I seriously dunno what's up. Could it be my network that's a bit quirky?

I re-installed raspbmc and when the Pi booted up I noticed it showed 100mbs, half duplex..
Is that a problem somehow or does that change once RaspBMC is installed

I recieved a customs letter from the post office saying that I need to pay R70 customs duties when I go and collect my pi at the post office..... Hmmmm I thought it was shipped with dhl and not normal mail?

I thiiiink I might have heard something about a change re: shipping. In any case I'd gladly pay that R70 customs fee vs filling DHL's pockets.

For those of you that have a Pi gathering dust you might want to look into this: https://www.edis.at/en/server/colocation/austria/raspberrypi/
They are offering free colocation hosting of your Pi with a 100Mbps uplink, 100Gb cap, 1 static IPv4, /112 static IPv6 and free reboots! Let your Pi experience the joys of true 100mbps internet...

Then what? Use it for? What are the advantages and what is the catch?

yes

Pi can be finicky. Ended up mod'ing mine to get rid of the current limitation. Streams fine via wifi then, and make sure you have a decent power supply.

I was initially going to get one, then decided against it, but now see some people have set it up as an HTPC, which grabbed my interest in the Pi again, so might get one. Is this feasible over wifi, or should I go the ethernet route?.

I have one of my Pi's currently plugged into my Sony Bravia's usb port as a power supply. Openelec on Pi is controlled using CEC via HDMI using TV remote, accessing movies using NFS over usb wifi.

Got some of my 512MB Pi's yesterday and they play the same as my mod'ed 256MB Pi's - seems the usb power issues have been sorted out on the new revision boards.

Also, overclocking to 950MHz creates a much more responsive UI. Kills the warranty though, but who cares! :)

Pretty easy setup and plays full HD.

Why would they do that? Free hosting and internet for my dedicated raspi server? :wtf:

I must actually spend some time in the next few weeks getting my Pi up and running properly.. its sat on a shelf for way too long.

I've actually got 2.

1. Running Raspbmc, using as an XBMC client. Using wifi to stream videos from my HP Server.
2. Running Sickbeard, Samba, Deluge and SABnzbd. It's essential a headless download beast. Since its so small, its connected directly to my router and have a 2.5" external for downloads.

I love PI:love:

Just need to find a VPN that can be setup on the PI.

Got one - using it as a Sickbeard/SAB download server. I've ordered 3 more - should get them next month.

How does it handle it? I've been thinking of doing this as an interim solution while saving up for a proper server for this and many other applications. Does it lack a lot? Apparently the Sabnsbdplus app will be the killer when it does article rebuild and/or extraction. Let me know, curious..

Why not try openswan if thats for available for rasp?

Whats the best way to get it as I want to order one at the end of the month?
