Hi,

I was wondering if anyone on here have used the raspberry Pi to run Showmax and DSTV Catch-up? I want to eliminate the need of a notebook next to the TV.

Any help / suggestions will be appreciated.

I cant handle the words showmax and DSTV Catch-up in one post, too much cancer and hate :|
I would suggest a VPN + netflix...

Original Raspberry Pi? Not a great idea...
IIRC I read around that it was just not powerful enough to stream/decode ("transcode"?) on the fly with that CPU and just generally didnt work very well when streaming over WiFi.

The model B and Model 2s on the other hand shouldnt have any problems.

Tried a Raspberry Pi a while back to run Kodi (or XBMC) and felt that it was not powerful enough and found it quite finiky to setup. Eventually gave up and bought a MyGica android mediaplayer. Sooo much easier to use and setup.

Sure, but the Pi 2 and latest Kodi is so much better. Deploy the old Pi elsewhere and get a Pi 2, you will find it incredibly capable.
