Raspberry Pi - why so much lag?

At the end of the day I don't mind starting up XBMC on the MySQL box and update the library and have the PI show the updated library. As Long as the PI can mark the content as watched once I have watched it?

Then when I get new media I am happy to update the library on the MySQL box and then use the PI as main pc to way h in lounge.

Would that work?

Appreciate your input btw.

That will work - the Pi doesn't require the main XBMC to be open to update the show status in the library - the main XBMC is only there to read in new content from your "Watch" folder.

Ah okay that makes sense.

I will give this a go tonight and see how I get on.

Appreciate the help

If I recall correctly, the setup is quite quick. It shouldn't take more than 20min.

All your xbmc installations should be based on the same version, e.g 12. to avoid any issues.

Really - that quick?

I was expecting hours?

Can't wait to try this out - see if it speeds things up!

Nah - its quick - the slowest part will be creating the library from XBMC, depending on how big your library is.

If I recall, the steps are quite simple.
1.) Install mysql
2.) Run database/table creation script and assign permissions.
3.) Edit the XBMC config file to point to the above server on your primary XBMC installation.
4.) Start XBMC and add your series/music/movie folders. (this is where it will slow down, depending on whether your artwork, etc is local, or if it must trawl the internet)
5.) Once the library is complete, add the mysql location to the config file on the other XBMC installations.

Ah okay that seems to make more sense. Will definitely take a look at this tonight.

Quick question: when you go into your tv shows folder.. How many items do you have in there and how long do you wait for it to show up?

I have 135 items and it takes around 7 seconds when I enter or leave any of its subfolders.

193 shows...takes about two seconds, and then some of the art lags a bit to display, but once its up its fine.

Two seconds I can deal with. :)

Thanks bud for the help - will let you know how I get on.

I'm using both an SD Card and a USB stick to run my Pi. Have hardly had an issue since moving over the system files to the USB and booting up from there. Longest period I've run without having to reboot the Pi is over 3 weeks.

Can you explain how you did this?
Was given a spare USB drive today - so would be useful

@: xrapidx Thank you so much for your help - got the MYSQl up and running!
Much faster!

I do have one issue though - it seems when a video has finished playing - it doesn't move to the next one automatically - even though I have it set in settings?

Do you have the same issue?

Thanks for all the help once again!!

Don't have that use on my normal microserver installs, will have to try on the Pi

Yeah on the Micro server it's fine. Just the PI.

Thanks.

Now to setup Futubox and some add-ons...
