Wasn't too sure where to post this, so mods please move as needed.

What is an acceptable rate per hour for working on a computer (repairs, building etc)?

Depends on how much you want to earn. I never follow industry standards. If you want to live like a king, target the high end market where you can charge a premium. That's just my opinion.

If you want to earn R1000 a day and only want to work for five hours then you charge R200 per hour (excluding components - labour cost only).

Well its just once off for my cousin. He insisted that he would pay me so I just want to know the general rate...

Wow thanks you're a big help. If I wanted to do that I wouldn't have created a thread asking about it.

Wow, you need a kick in the panty.

So you charge your own family, most people don't I suspect. His answer is pretty much in order I would say.

Yeah well maybe since he is not the most financially stable person around and has a wedding coming up I thought it would be appropriate to find out the normal rate so that I dont overcharge him.

Shame, do it for free man...

Ouch. Thats about what I earn doing temp programming work. With no degree...

Yea but he's probably working for a company that pays him that and works x hours a day, not just when there is work.

Oh, geesh... do it for free. The man's life is about to end and you're thinking of charging him. Not fair.

:D

Dude use your judgement i.e. What does the job entail, how gud of a cousin is he etc. If he's fananially stable and the job isn't too hectic, around R100 to R150 an hour should be fine.
