Help.... I went over a kerb a little too eagerly, heard and felt a loud thump from the bottom as it hit something on the way down.

Now there's a rattling/tractor-like noise whenever I accelerate.

What might've got damaged?

PS. Anyone know where I can rent a car for a month or two for a reasonable amount? Max R3000 per month.

most rental co.'s don't allow monthly rentals.
and, oh, good luck getting it at 3K... costs about 1200 a week (5 days) for low end cars at avis.

Its most likely the fan belt. I had same thing on my 1993 Corolla. Its a something belt and is dirt cheap to fix or replace.

Exhaust, back box or exhaust manifold. Additionally it may by some part of the intake manifold if it is routed in some strange manner but usually only the exhaust goes down there that would cause acoustic change.

Check your wheel bearings. I'm having mine replaced tomorrow - there's a noise and a vibration as my speed increases.

Cheaper Car Hire (011) 476 0000.

Could be a lot of things, but the exhaust theory is probably the most likely.

My last encounter with an accel linked noise was fixed with a single spot weld, so you might be lucky and get away with a small bill.
