Razer BlackWidow keyboard layout

The BlackWidow that I bought from Titan Ice was a US layout. Very good keyboard for typing and works fine for non-tournament level gaming. If you are really serious about your gaming then there are better keyboards, for typing I have not found anything better.

There is also a back-lit version but it costs R300 more - did not seem worth it. SteelSeries also have nice mechanical keyboards. These are thicker (i.e. higher) than the BlackWidow, and the angle your hands have to make to them means that they are less comfortable for typing.

In that case, stick with the BlackWidow.

Only other option is the CM Storm QuickFire, but there aren't m/any macro keys.

I have a CM Storm (with black switches), local suppliers seem to have the blue and black varieties. No macro keys, no numeric keypad, but much desk space regained :D

Only complaint so far, the wider keys with the metal stabilizers started squeaking after a few weeks, but that was easily remedied with a spot of lubrication.
Also, the price might be tad high, considering the absence of any bells and whistles.

It doesn't appear as if anyone is interested in the Corsair K90 at this stage, but just something to be aware of - the keyboard isn't fully mechanical. 40 of the keys are dome key switches (non-mechanical). These are the ESC and F keys, nine keys around in the Center block (PRTSCN, SCRLK, etc.), and the macro keys. The 'main functional keys' are however all mechanical (Cherry MX Red).

Probably not NB or really applicable to this thread, but just thought I'd raise awareness since the keyboard was mentioned.

Interesting to know, thanks. Would not expect Corsair to skimp somewhat like that. Is the cheaper K60 similar?

I don't find the Red switches appealing. Seems like they are too easy to actuate, where I like to rest a bit of finger weight on the keys. Have not tried it though so can only judge then.

The K60 is the same yes. The following was taken from Corsair's website, where the highlighted are the mechanical switches. All the rest are dome.

Corsair seems to be taking quite a bit of flak for this design decision. I'm very interested in grabbing a BW Ultimate Stealth for them MX Browns; looks like import is the only option right now. I had a BW Ultimate which I had to sell. Keys felt amazing, but I encountered the noise issue (subjective ofc) with the Blues. In my old house, the PC was situated close to our bedroom and there was no actual door seperating the bedroom from my man-corner - the wife would bitch about the constant clickies, haha. So much so that I eventually sold it.
