Hi there,

Looking for some advice on which graphics card to buy.

Should I get the XFX 8800GT XXX Alphadog Edition or the Inno3d 9800GTX.

(i.e. is the R200 price increase worth the cash)

This is for a friend who is a cod4 player - all he is interested in is playing cod4
on best settings.

Thanks for the help,
Stephen

I just bought the xFX 8800GT Alpha Dog, and all i can say is WOW.......Seriously unreal performance.....Been playing COD4 on FULL (1280x1024 + full gfx settings) and it this card just eats it up np. ;)

What to buy?

I've just bought a Samsung 2232GW its excellent value for money. Now i'm looking for a graphics card that will run at native 1600 x 1050.

I've been reading reviews and i've narrowed it down to three possible cards.

1. XFX 9600XT XXX (+-R2200)
2. Inno 9800 GT (+-R3000)
3. HD 4850 (-+R2500)

I'm keen on the ATI, but all my cards have been nvidia thus far. I like racing games and FPS and maybe a little oblivion and crysis for time to time.

What would you buy?

I would suggest 3rd party cooling eg stick a VF900 on that sucker (if it fits? still trying to find out)

It looks like there is not much supply of them. Everybody is still waiting for stock.

I agree, the cooler is essential!

4850 - 9800gtx : They are roughly equal in performance, but ur deduction of the resolution is far from accurate.

my bad :o

...why ? i dont know :D must have been sunday getting to me armed with vodka...

Lol I wish dude!! Soon, very soon ill own one :P
Nah I say use Edge Detect cause I use it on my 3870 and omf  it looks so good! I have no idea wtf its doing but EVERYTHING and I mean everything changes the look as soon as you put Edge Detect on.
Selling my 3870 to my buddy soon so I can buy myself the 4870....
I wonder how thats going to do against the 9800GTX+. Cant wait to see results!

Dude, use your logic, the 9800GTX+ is just a smaller die core with slightly higher clocks. If the 4850 (at stock) almost matches it, then what do you think the 4870 will do...
It'll most likely perform a bit above.
However those 9800GTX+ prices overseas are reaching for $199, nice.
